You will continue to move on Road 32 to reach Thu Cuc, after lunch time you will follow the snake road along hills of green tea fields, palm trees, and rustic villages of the Black Thai people. Today, most of the distance is easy and flat from Hanoi to the beautiful town located at the foot of Hoang Lien Son Range called Nghia Lo. You will travel approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) on a dirt road and will be offered lunch and dinner. Overnight stay will be at a standard hotel.

Day 2: Nghia Lo - Quang Binh (180 kilometers / 112 miles)

The highlight of this day will be riding on a stretch of single dirt track along the Ngoi Thia River, under the shadow of the cinnamon forest. You will next, cross a violent stream of water either by a bamboo raft (in the dry season) or via a wooden boat with capstan (in the rainy season).

After two and half hours on the track, you will have a tasty lunch at a small restaurant beside the road. For the rest of day, you will ride on the sealed road with long zig-zag paths, taking you to your hotel in Quang Binh. You will travel approximately 40 kilometers ( 25 miles) on a dirt road and will be offered breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Overnight stay will be at a standard hotel.

Day 3: Quang Binh - Hoang Su Phi (170 kilometers / 106 miles)

In the early morning, you will check the bikes and spare parts carefully and prepare a picnic lunch before embarking on a hard but exciting ride. After riding through small paved roads with many extreme sharp bends, you will turn into a small village to start a climb up to the peak of the mountain called Kio Lou Tie. This is the second highest summit of Northeast area situated 2,300 meters above the sea level.

Today, you can wake up a bit later than usual, as today you will be enjoying the unique flavor of a highland town which is separated from China only by the Tay Con Linh Mountains. After breakfast, you will follow the steep road, full of challenges along the Tay Con Linh range. The weather will get cooler as you drive uphill. Pack your luggage in dry bags carefully as you will cross many water springs during the ride today.

Driving guidelines

In some areas of Vietnam, Vietnamese people join traffic with no rules. They can participate in traffic right after drinking beer and wine, use horn loudly to surpass, pass on the right, turn left or right with no turn signals, or ride into the other vehicle lanes.

It is hence recommended to stay safe when riding motorbikes in Vietnam and in addition to learning the basic regulations of the law on road traffic, you also have to know about the traffic habits of Vietnamese people. Please be mindful of keeping right from the traffic, and monitoring the speed at allowed limits of 40 kilometers per hour in towns and 60 kilometers per hour outside of towns.

It is recommended to use the horn and flash headlights when your view is limited at the corners. Also, use turn signals and also turn your head to look back when you want to change the lane or directions. Be careful when you want to surpass because many people cross the street, change the lane, or direction without any signal, likewise when you ride in the tracks or cross the forests, please be over cautious.

Please remember, many local people and their animals have a habit of crossing the road freely and hence caution needs to be exercised at all times.
