Today you will head to the second largest city in Botswana - Francistown. Francistown was the center of southern Africa's first gold rush and is still surrounded by old and abandoned mines.
This is an overnight stop at the border town of Mahikeng.
Today you head for the historical town of Kimberley, famous for its diamond mines. Chose a day of rest or join the group visiting the Big Hole. The Big Hole has a surface of 17 hectares (42 acres) and is 463 meter wide.
It was excavated to a depth of 240 meters, but then partially infilled with debris reducing its depth to about 215 meters. Since then, it has accumulated water to a depth of 40 meters leaving 175 meters visible.
Beneath the surface, the Kimberley Mine underneath the Big Hole was mined to a depth of 1097 meters. A popular local myth claims that it is the largest hand-dug hole in the world and famous for producing the Kimberley Diamond - a rare 19th-century diamond, discovered as a 490-carat rough diamond crystal.
From Kimberley you will head to Beaufort West, a town in the Western Cape Province in South Africa. It is the largest town in the arid Great Karoo Region.
Ride the R62 through the Klein Karoo for stunning mountain vistas. Also known as the wine route, Route 62 leads through the wine-growing areas of Wellington, Tulbagh, Worcester, Robertson, and the Klein Karoo and is thus one of the longest wine routes in the world.
On your way back to Cape Town, this is where your journey ends.
