Fours days of extreme snowmobile adventures in the remote backcountry of wild Alaska awaits you! Cross over frozen lakes and rivers, weave through vast birch and spruce forest, see trap lines, visit ice caves at Maclaren Glacier and Eureka Glacier, take a night ride and view the Northern Lights.
You will stay at Lake Louise Lodge, Maclaren River Lodge, and Alpine Lodge.
This 400-mile trip will take you to three remote lodges where you can relax after a fun filled day of snowmobile riding. This tour requires a four-hour drive to the trailhead at Lake Louise Lodge. A van shuttle is included in the price and leaves from Anchorage at 4 p.m. the day before the start of the tour. Dinner will be provided at the lodge.
Alaska Wild Guides provides adventure tours for groups seeking a unique way to experience Alaska. No experience is needed, however, experience on a motorized sport vehicle such as a motorcycle, ATV, or Personal Watercraft can be helpful as the riding techniques are similar. Riding a snowmobile is demanding and requires a certain level of physical fitness as the tour can cover up to 100 miles in a given day. For more information regarding driving snowmobile and the tour, please send inquiry.
Wake up refreshed from a great nights sleep at the Lake Louise Lodge and begin the first day of your tour with the snowmobiles sitting outside waiting for you. After an orientation on riding the snowmobile, you’ll zip across the massive Lake Louise, tuck into the trees on a winding trail, and make your way over the Alphabet Hills on your way to the Maclaren River Lodge. Breakfast at Lake Louise Lodge, lunch on the trail, and dinner at Maclaren Lodge.
After such an adventurous first day, you’ll enjoy a groomed trail back to the Maclaren Glacier, where you’ll explore any ice caves you find. Then you ride through a narrow canyon and make your way to the Eureka Glacier, once again looking for ice caves and marveling at the ancient ice.
If conditions are right, you might ride far up onto the glaciers for some amazing views. From here, there are multiple different awesome trails your guide may lead you back to the Maclaren River Lodge depending on avalanche / weather conditions. Breakfast and dinner at Maclaren Lodge, lunch on the trail.
Travel back toward the headwaters of Clearwater Creek and ascend through a remote mountain pass before following Valdez Creek down to the Susitna River and looping around to stay at the Alpine Creek Lodge. Breakfast at Maclaren, lunch on the trail, and dinner at Alpine Lodge.
Ride the Susitna and Tyone Rivers (100 miles), back to Lake Louise lodge and drive back to Anchorage for a farewell dinner (not included in the tour but a lot of fun) before being dropped off at your accommodation or airport. Breakfast at Alpine Lodge and lunch on the trail.
Derek Ruckel spent six years guiding day and multi-day tours on snowmobile and sea kayaks. Realizing that he could offer a better and safer tour than the other outfitter currently operating, he began working toward the creation of Alaska Wild Guides while owning / operating a B&B, raising twin girls, and volunteering as an EMT and firefighter with the Girdwood Fire Dept.
Brandon Ruckel grew up in Nikiski, Alaska which is 10 miles north of Kenai on the Kenai Penninsula. He spent a large chunk of his childhood summers exploring the woods.
Daily meals are included in the price.
