Program

You will travel through Greece towards the capital of Epirus, Ioannina. This picturesque, full-of-history town will be your base for this six-day tour. Within these days, you will have the opportunity to ride through virgin forests, visit traditional stone-built villages, and taste homemade "just like mama's" food.

Day 1: Athens - Meteora - Ioannina (506 kilometers / 316 miles)

You will meet early in the morning and after a briefing, you will ride North, to Central Greece. After you pay your respects to the monument o Leonidas in the village of Thermopylae, you will continue North-East to the magnificent Meteora.

You will have time to admire this unique rock formation and the monasteries on top. You will then head East to pass through one of the best mountain passes of Greece, the "Baaros Pass", on your way to the city of Ioannina, which will be your base.

Day 2: Ioannina - Syrrako - Kalarites - Ioannina (133 kilometers / 85 miles)

You will head South-West towards two very characteristic villages, Syrrako and Kalarites. Built on the slopes of Mount Peristeri, they are seperated by the river Chrousias. You will have the opportunity to see the entire Tzoumerka from various points of the route.

Day 3: Ioannina - Metsovo - Zagorohoria - Ioannina (326 kilometers / 205 miles)

You will leave Ioannina today and head North-East to make your first stop in Metsovo, one of the most important villages of Epirus. Your riding day will circle around the National Park of Pindos and within this long ride, you will have the opportunity to visit unique natural locations an visit the most important traditionally built stone-made villages of Zagorohoria. Long ride this day and your return to Ioannina will leave you full of images written in your mind forever.

Day 4: Ioannina - Acheron River - Dodoni - Zitsa - Ioannina (173 kilometers / 110 miles)

This will be a day when you will head South and follow Acheron River, the river that in antiquity was believed to lead the dead to the Hades. Then you will head North to the archeological site of Dodoni, the oldest Oracle of ancient Greece, second only to Delphi.

Following that, you will head North towards the village Zitsa, which is home of a very special type of wine and have a sip, or two. You will be close to Ioannina so you will ride back and close a beautiful day.

Day 5: Ioannina rest day

Today, you will spend the day in Ioannina, the capital of Epirus. Experience lakeside walks, traditional food and pastries, and busy nightlife. This day will give you an opportunity to shop souvenirs and various memorabilia from local craftsmen to take home.

Day 6: Ioannina - Nafpaktos - Arachova - Athens (492 kilometers / 310 miles)

This is the final day and the route takes you first to Nafpaktos, a small town on the coastline of the Corinthian Gulf with a historic castle. Then you will follow the coastline heading East, and climb the Parnassos Mountain to visit Arachova, a very popular winter resort. This will be your last stop before you reach Athens at night of the sixth-day ride on a beautiful part of Greece.

Difficulty level: 3 out of 5

You should be a rider who is experienced in provincial roads with tight bends and able to ride between 6-8 hours in a day. Routes are usually on asphalt-paved roads. However, these may be in a bad condition, with quite a lot of potholes and challenging weather conditions, or they may entail heavy traffic, especially during the summer months (seaside resorts or large city centers).

Driving in Greece

In order to drive in Greece, you must hold a driver’s license (you must carry this with you at all times) and an International Driver’s Licence (for traveling to neighboring countries and overseas).

The driver must hold a driver’s license or international driver’s license for the respective category of motorcycle. The license must be valid and must have been issued in the renter’s country of residence at least one year prior to the date of rental.

The tour will take place in Epirus, Greece. Starting from Athens, the journey will bring you to your base, Ioannina. From there, you will travel to local villages.
