I was quite apprehensive about our off road adventure prior to the start in March of this year. I almost pulled out after two days after coming off the bike a few times. The tour is definitely not for the inexperienced or faint hearted rider. I'm so glad that I persevered as it was well worth it. All of the reviews so far are absolutely correct. Reed was a superb host and organizer. Nothing was too much trouble and it felt safe to be under his control. His knowledge of the country, beautiful accommodation, and eateries were second to none. The accommodation was outstanding as were the numerous restaurants and other food outlets. The bikes were in very good condition and our mechanic, Nung, was able to fix and maintain them to a very high standard. He was a pleasure to have as one of the support crew, as were Phil and Jean Marc. The roads and jungle tracks that we travelled on were varied in terms of difficulty. They had all been recently checked out and every inch of the way was logged on GPS. The whole experience from go to whoa was seamless apart from one small hitch that was out of anyone's control. One of the roads was closed to bike riders so we had to backtrack and do some serious road riding for a day or so. All part of the adventure and no big deal in the scheme of things. This company is seriously good and cannot be recommended highly enough. Great people, excellent riding, fabulous scenery, and food. Do yourself a favour and book a tour!
My wife and I completed the Golden Triangle Tour just over a week ago and are still grinning from ear to ear. This was the best biking holiday we've ever had, possibly the best holiday overall and it far exceeded our expectations. The tour superbly combines some very challenging and rewarding biking roads through stunning mountain scenery, fantastic Thai food in a wide variety of local restaurants and cafes, and atmospheric and characterful hotels and resorts in the most beautiful rural locations. Because we traveled slightly out of season, we were the only people on this tour which meant we missed out on the camaraderie of a group but enjoyed a tour shaped around us and what we wanted to get out of it. We didn’t have a motorcycle guide but were escorted throughout by a fast paced support vehicle which set the pace through towns and areas where navigation was tricky but we went on ahead as soon as the roads got interesting. The roads were just as described on the website. Every type of road imaginable from broad dusty trail to narrow, tortuous inclines, through hill villages liberally sprinkled with sunbathing dogs to miles of GP standard tarmac. The mountain sections offered quite a few technical and difficult roads which needed both skill and care, whilst the Mae Hong Son loop was an absolute blast and largely empty of other traffic. Frankly the hotels deserve their own guide book. The majority were outstanding, either due to their facilities or their stunning location, all were the best available in the area and had free Wi-Fi (very handy for keeping friends at home green with envy with tales and photos of your day's riding) and most had pools. Without exception staff were friendly and welcoming and made us feel like honored guests. What brought the whole tour together for us was our guide and support vehicle driver, Pae. He speaks excellent English, is good and interesting company, and is happy to share his knowledge of Thai and Chinese religion, history, and politics. Throughout the whole tour he made us feel like VIPs, sorting out the luggage, hotels, restaurants, bike, and ice cold beer. All we had to do was turn up and enjoy, for which we were very grateful in the 37 degrees heat. We found the whole trip to be well researched, well organized and well led, although we did find that pre-tour communication was a bit hit and miss, mainly due to it being a small business and Reed being on tour himself at the time of booking. We would thoroughly recommend the Golden Triangle tour to any biker passionate not only about serious thrills, fine food, and fabulous accommodation but who also wants to learn about the local area and culture.

I took part as a customer in the Shangri-La tour in October 2015. This was my second Shangri-La tour in 2015. I enjoyed the first one so much that this time I took my girlfriend with me so I could share the fantastic experience. I am a very experienced rider and as part of a motorcycle club here in Thailand have led many rides, and I rode motorcycles as part of my occupation for many years. I feel qualified to know what is safe and what is not. The food again on this tour was great and I was never left hungry. Reed took into consideration other customers dietary requirements and where possible tried to meet those requirements. The hotels we stayed in were the same as my last trip except for one, and were above the standard I would normally stay in. Unfortunately, one was poor and was used following local advice. During the second half of the tour, I was in a serious accident that required hospitalization and evacuation back to my adopted home country for medical treatment. Reed and his ground staff could not have been more helpful or attentive to my medical needs. Dealing with the hospitals, insurance companies, and police, and just dealing with my personal needs would have been a nightmare without Reed and his staff. I am so grateful for their help. The accident did not occur because of unsafe roads - it was a result of poor Chinese driving which is so common there. Having lived in Thailand for seven years and experiencing daily terrible driving the Chinese are able to take it to another level. Thankfully Reed knows this and takes it into consideration when planning routes and, despite some participants wanting to use secondary rural roads which are much more dangerous to travel, he considers group safety paramount. As with any tour, group dynamics play an important role. Sadly, from early on the group split into two and it became intolerable. Despite voicing my disapproval of what was happening with the ‘other’ group and promises of this behavior stopping it didn’t. Reed tried very hard to unite the group but it didn’t happen. Reed’s knowledge of the Yunnan area is vast and although I had heard many of his stories on my previous tour I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them again. Yunnan province is a beautiful and special place, and I would not hesitate to go with Reed for the third time.
It has been over three years since I booked and experienced the greatest motorcycle trip of my life. I remember it like it was yesterday. I have told the story so many times that I don't think I could ever forget it. I was the only person to book Asian Motorcycle Adventures for that current week. I thought that the tour would be cancelled due to lack of interest but instead, Reed shook my hand and said, "It looks like it will be just you and me, Casey." I could not believe the pictures, videos, food, and culture that I experienced in my five-day Golden Triangle tour. I rode the best roads I have ever ridden. One road was so good that I commented how it would be great if I could ride that piece again. Without hesitation, Reed said, "You are the boss, let's ride it again!" We rode it back and finished it once more. This is the type of person Reed is. Ultimate customer service. Being in the military, detail is important to me and Rich had every detail planned to perfection, yet allowing for the flexibility of a "do over road" or an extra stop here and there. Reed's knowledge of the area and of the best places to stop and eat was superb. Not only did I have the best biking in my life, but I had the best vacation and cultural experience of my life as well. The food was so good. We rode as hard or light as I wanted. We talked about various subjects; Reed's personal story of 9-11 will forever be etched in my mind. If you have any doubts about hiring Asian Motorcycle Adventures, then give yourself a sanity check. It will be your finest adventure. You will not regret any of it. I felt that I made a new friend after a week of glorious riding. I cannot wait for the next time. Do it! It will be worth it.

I joined up for the Old Elephant Trail tour and was apprehensive about what I would experience. I had the best five days of off-road riding through a country that very few non-locals will ever see. From riding along ancient trading routes north west of Chiang Mai, to thick jungle trails linking small hill villages near the Burmese border and incredible high country fire trails, this tour has it all for the off-road rider. Reed, Nop, and Pae are truly world-class guides who are extremely knowledgeable about all of the local trails across incredible mountainous terrain as well as being connoisseurs of the local cuisine and they provide the best possible luxury accommodation available. Nop was fantastic as my off-road trail guide. He customizes the trail to suit your experience, and I look forward to his challenges next time we ride. If you love riding bikes, Asian Motorcycle Adventures can provide you with the experience of a lifetime.
