Day 1: Chiang Mai to Mae Sot

A fairly leisurely breakfast, then you set off along the Burmese border to cover the approximately 363 kilometers / 226 miles) to the Burmese (Myanmar) border town of Mae Sot.

Rivers, valleys, farms, and small towns, and you pass through three National Parks on the route. There will of course be a lunch stop and some cool photo opportunities.

The group intends to arrive at the hotel around 5 p.m., so you have plenty of time to wash up before dinner. Overnight in Mae Sot.

Day 2: Mae Sot to Mae Sariang

A fairly leisurely breakfast, then you set off along the Burmese border to cover around 240 kilometers / 149 miles up to Mae Sariang near the Slaawan National Park. A Lot of the route follows the course of the Moei River and delivers some fantastic views across the border into Burma. Overnight in Mae Sariang.

Day 3: Mae Sariang to Pai

Lots to see and lots of roads to cover today, but it's a fantastic route. The 108 could have almost been specifically made for touring bikes, and features twists, sweeping curves, loops, and a few hilly climbs as you head up to Mae Hong Son covering around 160 kilometers / 99 miles.

The area is home to traditional hill tribes such as the Shan and Hmong. It is a gateway to the region's hilly geography and is overlooked by the beautiful Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu, which is a Burmese-style monastery.

Day 4: Pai to Chiang Dao

It's around 265 kilometers / 165 miles from Pai to Chaing Dao, but the tranquility of Pai stays with you on this breathtakingly beautiful ride to the Oasis of Chiang Dao.

The 1095 is well known as a great road for bikers with its loops and curves and great views as it skirts the Srilanna National Park.

Chiang Dao itself is a delight and boasts waterfalls, hot springs with accommodation that almost seems to hang from the mountainside. Lots of local snack options, artists workshops, and a good-sized cave, you will love walking this gentle town in the evening, after dinner at the hotel.

Day 5: Chiang Dao to Chiang Khong

This morning you say goodbye to Chaing Dao and head off on a 260 kilometers / 162 miles ride to Chiang Khong on the banks of the Mekong River in the Chiang Rai district. This takes you through the infamous Golden Triangle where Thailand, Lao, and Myanmar all meet, with views of China in the distance.

Taking the 107, you skirt north across Chiang Rai on the 1089 and 1098 down through the river basin and head towards the Lao border and into the town to the hotel for dinner and a restful overnight stay.

The area is also home to The Doi Tung Development Project (DTDP), a flagship project established in 1988 by the Princess Mother in Chiang Rai Following her first visit to Doi Tung in 1987, the Princess Mother surveyed the baron hills and announced “I will reforest Doi Tung” to allow the local people and the wonders of nature to exist together.

One of the towns claims to fame is as the place where “Pla Buk”, giant catfish, is cultivated the largest freshwater fish in the world.

Day 6: Chiang Khong to Nan

Breakfast is done and you have a beautiful southward ride today covering around 255 kilometers / 158 miles down to Nan. A fantastic biking road with plenty to enjoy and challenge your riding skills, with some tight loops and bends.

As you get closer to Nan, you start to touch on the Doi Phu Nang National Park and its wonderful forests that give you some great stops for photos. Then into Nan and its three bridges connecting the right bank to the left bank of the river Nan and a myriad of temples. You will stay overnight here and you can have fun exploring the city after dinner.

Day 7: Nan to Phayao

After breakfast, it's more of the wonderful Doi Phu Nang National Park to start the morning ride as you head inland to Phayao. Passing close to the 17th century Wat Tha Fah Tai and its wood Buddha image standing over two meters high.

Lovely river crossings and the route takes you along and over the river Yom, through forested hills, and along the wonderful winding roads. You arrive in Phayao late afternoon and have a little time to explore before dinner at the hotel.

Plenty of markets and boutique shops to wander around and you can also ride the tram to see the city or stroll slowly and breathe in the fresh air by the lake.

Day 8: Phayao to Chiang Mai

After the final breakfast together, you set off back to Chiang Mai. It's around 210 kilometers on some great roads that run along the southernmost mountains of Doi Luang National Park and then you turn southeast to head down to Chiang Mai.

Lunch with a view on the way and would hope to arrive by early to mid-afternoon in the city. Then sadly it's time to say goodbye and take away the memories of a fantastic experience and adventure.
