This tour suggestion is oriented towards riders with limited time, who are crossing Bulgaria or are near it. In these five days, you will ride on beautiful scenic roads and mountain passages, during which you will be introduced to Bulgarian history, archaeology, and culture. You will learn a lot about Bulgarian heritage from their ancestors by the guided visits in multiple places. On this tour, you will have the chance to experience the Bulgarian cuisine and also to admire some of its most beautiful parts - Rhodope Mountain, Pirin Mountain, and the Central Balkan Mountain.
To make this tour an unforgettable experience, Bultrips Ltd is offering you to stay in a guest house, in a village where you will taste the real homemade food, typical for the South part, to hear and learn the local songs and dances. In addition to that, during the five days you will ride in the Trigrad Gorge, sleep in a hotel surrounded only by natural beauty and horses, and visit the Bulgarian most famous wine region.
Meet and greet day - In case you rent a bike and arrive by plane, the staff will organize the transfer to your hotel.
Bultrips Ltd will pick you up from your accommodation in Sofia at 9:00. When you pack, the tour will start and you will head toward one of the most popular scenic moto roads in Bulgaria. After a couple of hours, you will reach the first stop, where you will have a guided visit of an architect reserve, bringing you back in the 19th century's atmosphere. There you will learn lots of history about the Bulgarian revival period and the struggle for independence from the Ottoman empire. You will continue after that towards Starosel. The region there is related to the mysterious civilization of the Thracians, lived on these land between The Bronze Age and IV century AD. There are some interesting religious and burial complexes left by them in the area. You can visit one of the biggest – Starosel complex. The group will have a guided visit to it.
Another couple of hours of riding will take you to the final destination for the day – Plovdiv. The afternoon will be spent exploring this very ancient city, considered to be one of the oldest in Europe. It is holding heritage from all historical periods. You will visit the famous Roman theatre and the Roman stadium, the oldest Mosque on the Balkans and the Bulgarian 19th-century houses. The overnight is scheduled to be in the Cultural Capital of Europe for 2019. The evening you can spend in the area called "The trap", full of small craft restaurants and bars.
After breakfast, you will start the journey south, deep in the Rhodope Mountain. The first stop will be at a fortress from the medieval times, built on the top of a cliff. Climbing some stairs will give you the opportunity to admire a great view. Also, you will see a very well preserved church from the 12th century. The next visit will be at the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria, built in the 11th century by two brothers from Georgia. Later in the day, you will pass the famous Trigrad gorge. After a visit of interesting, beautiful, and full of legends cave – The Devil’s throat, you will check in a hotel in Trigrad and enjoy traditional Bulgarian hospitality and cuisine.
This day will give you the pleasure to enjoy peaceful secondary roads, surrounded by the beauty of nature. You will pass around water reservoirs, rivers, and mountain passes. Your final destination will be a region called the Bulgarian Tuscany. This is Bulgaria's most famous wine region and nature also helps a lot for the nickname.
You will pay a visit to one of the very good Bulgarian wineries, Villa Melnik. Bultrips Ltd can organize a visit to the cellar with wine tasting. Also, their shop can supply you with provisions for the rest of the trip. You will overnight in Melnik.
After breakfast, you will have a guided tour of the smallest town in Bulgaria. You will visit a wealthy 18th-century Bulgarian house, owned by a family, involved in the wine trade at that time. They were exporting wine to Venice and importing the famous glass in the Ottoman empire. You will walk around the medieval remains of Melnik and will ride to a nearby monastery, situated in that beautiful place for around 1000 years.
After that your riding will begin. You will pass another nice river gorge – Kresna and will head toward the Bansko area. This is the biggest ski resort in Bulgaria. You will visit the old historical part and if you have the strength, you can ride to the hut, below the highest peak - Vihren. From there you can make a nice walk and see three natural lakes. In the evening you will check in a local house in a village nearby, where you will have typical Bulgarian homemade dinner and you will be introduced to the Bulgarian songs, dances, and spirit drinks.
This is your last day. After breakfast, you will start your journey back to Sofia. You will pass around the highest mountain on the Balkan Peninsula, Rila. You will stop to visit a UNESCO site, Rila monastery, which is the biggest and the most important monastery in Bulgaria. After the guided tour of the place, you will have lunch in a restaurant nearby, where you can try fresh trout fish, typical for the region. After an hour and a half ride, you will be back in Sofia.
During the tour, you will navigate your bike on mountain and scenic, curvy roads in good condition and well marked. In some sections, there will be heavy traffic.
Daniel is a professional travel guide, certified by the Bulgarian Travel Association, with more than 10 years of experience in the travel industry. He graduated from Management of Tourism in Varna, Bulgaria. His passion for motorbikes came a long time ago and he had the chance to ride different types of bikes, but really enjoys tourer and adventure motorcycles. At the moment, he is riding a Yamaha TDM 850 "the old horse."
Adrian has been working in the sphere of tourism for four years. Part of his profession is to be a guide in Bulgaria and create tour products. Adrian is an archaeologist and he uses his knowledge to represent Bulgaria's culture and history in the most realistic way that is possible. According to Adrian, his decision to get on the bike was one of the best he has ever made. He is a certified rider by California Super Bikes. He is currently riding a BMW F800R with a huge smile on his face.
Ivo has been on a bike since 1991. Since 2004, he has been riding a Honda Goldwing. He has reached absolutely every country in Europe, even England, Maroko, Tunisia, Turkey, and Russia. In 2008, he established GoldWing Club Bulgarai.
