On this tour, you will experience some of the best sights in Bulgaria, Greece, and Macedonia. These lands are very rich of historical, archaeological, and natural sites. This tour will explain to you the common Balkan heritage, but also the local differences. You will ride on carefully selected roads and stay in recommended three-star hotels. You guide will be highly professional and educated and will share with you all of his knowledge.
You will be staying at various three-star hotels across Bulgaria, Greece, and Macedonia. The places you will be staying at include: Plovdiv (first night), and Trigrad (second night) in Bulgaria; Kavala (third night), Thessaloniki (fourth night), and the Meteora area (fifth night) in Greece; and Ohrid (sixth night) and Skopje (seventh night) in Macedonia.
You will start your tour on one of the most popular scenic motor road in Bulgaria. It is right next to Central Balkan mountain. After a couple of hours, you will reach your first stop, where you will have a guided visit of ancient "Diocletianopolis". The town is still an active spa resort with well preserved Roman remains, where you will have your lunch.
Your final destination is Plovdiv, the cultural capital of Europe for 2019, where you will overnight. After checking in the hotel, you will have guided walking tour of the historical part of the oldest cities in Europe. Heritage from all periods is preserved around the cobblestone streets.
The main highlights you will visit are: Revival period wealthy houses, Roman Theater, early 20th century pharmacy, medieval remains and fortifications, Roman stadium, 14th century beautiful mosque, and many more. For the evening, Bultrips Ltd recommends an area called "The Trap"; full of bars, restaurants, and craft shops.
After breakfast, you will keep your course south. You will visit a medieval fortress located on a top of a cliff, giving a nice view of the area. Then, go visit the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria: Bachkovo monastery. It was established in the 11th century by Georgian, very close to the Imperial power of Byzantine empire.
This place is also an important for the history of the Jewish community in Bulgaria, because the main figures, responsible for saving them during the Second World War are buried there. After guided visit of those places, you will head toward Trigrad. You will pass through an amazing mountain roads and gorge. You will overnight there, enjoying the local cuisine and traditions.
After breakfast, you will continue towards Greece on a nice mountain roads. You will avoid highways as much as you can for a better experience. You will pass through many Greek villages. Your final destination is the city of Kavala. It has a fortress on the seaside and one of the best preserved Roman Aqueduct. You will overnight in the town. You can have a great dinner at the marina.
In the morning, you will start your journey west. Your first visit will be in the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. The tomb is very close to Pela, the capital of the Macedonian dynasty and it is part of a big ancient necropolis. You will have guided visit of the historical site.
After this, you will go a bit back and enter Thessaloniki, the second biggest city of Greece. You will check in a hotel there, leave the bikes, and enjoy the city’s center. The main highlights are: The white tower, the Roman terms, Roman arch, the Medieval town, and a big, rich archaeological museum.
Your main objective for the day will be to reach Meteora, one of the most sacred Christian place with a very unique nature. There are many monastery complexes, situated high on cliffs. The exact date of the establishment of the monasteries is unknown.
By the late 11th and early 12th centuries, a rudimentary monastic state had formed called the Skete of Stagoi and was centered around the still-standing church of Theotokos. By the end of the 12th century, an ascetic community had flocked to Meteora and expanded its size.
You will visit some of the most important monasteries and churches, which despite the history, will give an amazing views. You will overnight in the area.
In the morning, you will start your trip to Macedonia. You will ride on a beautiful road and reach Ohrid, where you will have a guided tour of the historical part of the city. It is the second city of the country, but for sure the most beautiful and preserved. You will ride around the huge Ohrid Lake. In the evening, you will have traditional Balkan dinner in the old part of Ohrid, enjoying the surrounding nature. You will overnight there.
After breakfast, you will start your journey to the capital of Macedonia: Skopje. Before you get there, you will stop at one of the most beautiful natural parks in Europe: Matka. You will spend some time there. Also, if you like, you can rent a small boat and enjoy nature. You can reach a cave and some medieval Bulgarian monasteries.
After that, you will ride to the city of Skopje and have a guided walk in the historical center. It is a unique place, which will give you an interesting conception of the Balkan reality. Also, the central part is separated in two parts: the old and the modern. The old is very oriental and has the typical "suk".
This is the last day of your guided tour. In the morning, you will start your return journey to Sofia. On the way, you will stop at one UNESCO site in Bulgaria, Rila monastery, the biggest on the Balkan Peninsula. It is still an active one and monks are still living there. The history of the place could be tracked in the 10th century. You will have guided visit of the complex. Your lunch will be there.
After that, you will ride to Sofia. You will return the rented bikes and check in the hotel. If your flight is on that day, Bultrips Ltd will transfer you to the airport directly. If you depart the next day, airport transfer is also included.

Ivo has been on a bike since 1991. Since 2004, he has been riding a Honda Goldwing. He has reached absolutely every country in Europe, even England, Maroko, Tunisia, Turkey, and Russia. In 2008, he established GoldWing Club Bulgarai.
This tour will take you through three different countries: Bulgaria, Greece, and Macedonia. Some of the places you will visit include: Sofia, Plovdiv, and Trigrad in Bulgaria; Kavala, Thessaloniki, and Meteora in Greece; as well as Ohrid and Skopje in Macedonia.
