Most people don’t naturally think of Gran Canaria as a biking destination and when they look at it on the map, they believe they could ride around the island in a day. They would be right but what you can’t do in riding just for one day is also explore the vast mountain ranges, the rugged and spectacular northwest coast, or the unspoiled north coast. Join the tour and explore more the breathtaking view of Gran Canaria!
You have a choice of hotels. Both hotels are located in the local town of Vecindario. It takes 15 minutes from the airport and easily accessible for the mountains, the resorts, and the capital.
The 2-star option is centrally based and is ideally located for local amenities such as shopping, bars, transport links, and restaurants. The staff is delightful and the food is home-cooked, delicious, and extremely reasonably priced too. This is a cozy and comfortable hotel which many of guests stay in time and time again.
The air-conditioned hotel has a total of 60 rooms including double rooms (with 2 separate beds or a double), single rooms, triples, and suites. In addition, the hotel also provides one room with wheelchair access. Furthermore, the hotel includes a lobby, 24-hour reception with a hotel safe, lift, cafe, bar, breakfast room, and TV room. Guests may also make use of the conference facilities, internet access, laundry service, and the garage.
The 4-star option is a charming, luxury hotel. Elba Vecindario Aeropuerto Business & Convention Hotel can be found in the local town of Vecindario, part of Santa Lucía district, 3 km from Pozo Izquierdo Beach, famous for its windsurfing. It features a rooftop terrace and swimming pool. The rooms at Elba Vecindario are equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and satellite TV. They also include a bathroom complete with a hairdryer. Please note there is no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Elba Business and Convention Hotel offers an extensive buffet breakfast. The El Lagar restaurant serves regional and international cuisine, and the hotel also has a snack bar. The fitness centre at Vecindario Aeropuerto includes a gym, sauna and massage services. There are also squash facilities.
The hotel is 25 minutes’ by car from Las Palmas. The beaches in the south of the Canary Islands can be reached within 15 minutes. The hotel is only a 15-minute car journey from the airport.
Leaving at 09:30, you will spend a full day riding, no short measure here. You will ride with a quick comfort and mid-morning coffee break as you head off up the mountains. After a few hours of riding, you will stop for lunch at some beautiful, quaint, and picturesque villages for lunch before heading back down the mountains via traditional villages and arriving back between 17:00 and 18:00.
You may feel exhausted yet extremely satisfied. After a good feed and a good night sleep, you set off again for another day of adventure, another route, another experience, and another challenge. Canary Motorcycle Tours have worked hard to devise several memorable and affordable week-long motorcycle tours and an unforgettable motorcycle holiday.
Today is your arrival day. After being collected from the airport, Canary Motorcycle Tours takes you to your hotel.
After completing relevant paperwork, getting geared up, and having a short safety briefing, you set off from Canary Motorcycle Tours unit in Vecindario and fuel up. You set off from town at about 09:30 and head straight up into the mountains for the center of the island route visiting Santa Lucia, Tejeda, and Artenara for a lunch stop. Then, you continue riding to Acusa, Carrizal de Tejeda, Fataga, and back to Vecindario at about 17:00 depending on the traffic.
Again, leaving at 09:30, you head east towards Las Palmas but turn off for Marzigan, San Mateo, Moya, Galdar in the northwest for lunch. Then, back towards the east of the Island via the highest point, Pico de Las Nieves, and back down to Vecindario via the amazing low road.
With another 09:30 start, you head out for your favorite route which is stunning, spectacular, and beautiful. Words and photos do not do justice to this road, you have to experience the ride yourself. Today, you head north through some amazing sweeping roads towards the port of Agaete but first, call into Sardina for lunch. From there, you tackle the most amazing road the island has with a high cliff edge road, remarkable sea views.
Experience a trip through the newly opened cliff tunnel towards Mogan before turning north towards Stelvio Pass - 32 hairpins in 10 minutes, before heading east towards Vecindario, aiming to get back at 17:30
This is normally a rest day when you can sample some of the outstanding beaches such as the Dunes of Maspalomas or visit the wonderful capital of Las Palmas and its old town. However, some people opt to utilize this day and include the additional extra option of a visit to Tenerife via Fred Olsen Catamaran. A very early start involves catching the 08:30 ferry from Agaete and riding south towards Los Gigantes before heading right up to the visitors center on Mount Teide.
Following a lunch break in Santa Cruz, you head north to experience the beautiful green Anaga area before catching the 18:00 ferry back to Gran Canaria. It's an exceptionally long and pack day but very much worth the visit and the wonderful experience.
At 9:30, start on this less challenging day but nonetheless still breathtaking. Heading north via Aguimes and Telde, you visit the capital Las Palmas and the famous Las Canteras area for coffee before heading west to the quaint town of terror and ride some superb country roads.
After a lunch stop in the traditional Canarian town square, you ride to Arucas mountain to see the breathtaking views of the north including Arucas Cathedral from the highest point in town before then on to the Caldron de Bandama for further terrific sights of the east coast. Finally, no visit to this area is complete without a visit to Vallesquillo and the best cake shop ever. Then, a quick blast home again, expecting to get back to the unit at 17:30.
It's the last riding day, but still a 09:30 start to ride more internal mountain roads to visit more of the center of the Island. Head back to the Cumbre and face an ultimate challenge, a road full of hairpins, twisties, and a steady yet something sharp climbs.
Here, you ride to some fantastic mountain reservoirs before heading south and having lunch at Restaurante de Las Canandas. Head back via hairpins of the mountains in the center of the island and back to Vecindario via the sweeping high road, another favorite road.
