Program

You will leave Hanoi for Highway 4 on your way to Cao Bang province and the limestone plateau of Quảng Uyên. Along the way, you can stop at famous battlefields in the Viet Minh’s war against the French in the 1950’s. You will take the time to explore back roads and tracks along the border of China and stop for a picnic lunch before heading to Pác Bó and Ho Chi Minh’s cave.

Afterward, you will head north through hill tribe villages, forest, and rivers to Bảo Lạc. You will then go to the gateway to the Ha Giang plateau. Then, you will climb through the rice terraces to Hoàng Su Phì and down to the Dao hill tribe village of Panhou, Bắc Hà, and Sapa.

In the past, this remote region along the Chinese border was closed off to the outside world. However, the remarkable limestone landscapes of Đồng Văn and Mèo Vạc were recently declared as the Vietnam’s first Global Geo Park due to its geological landscape. The good roads and rocky trails winding throughout Ha Giang Province offer something for every motorcyclist, whether you’re a road rider or an off-road adventurer.

Riding info

Vietnam is not the place to learn to ride a motorbike. You must have riding experience to join this tours. Additionally, you can expect the full range of riding conditions in Vietnam such as rain, fog, wet roads, rocks, roadworks, and other hazards. You may want to share your preferences to Cuongs Motorbike Adventure regarding riding on sealed roads, challenging trails, or a combination of both.

This tour will take you out to the mountains and countryside where the traffic is limited and roads are clear. However, be aware at all times because there are other vehicles, motorbikes, bicycles, and farm animals on the road. You need to always drive defensively and stay on the right side of the road and slow down when other people are on the road.

Vietnamese traffic is chaotic at its best and the traffic looks like a free-for-all, but it’s not. There are fixed rules which are just a different set of rules than the ones you are used to. The big difference is that in Western countries, a traffic light is just a suggestion and all intersections should be approached with caution. However, there’s a method to the madness and it’s easy to navigate through on your motorbike when you know the rules.

This motorcycle tour will include a journey which starts and ends in Hanoi. You will explore several destinations such as That Khe, Quảng Uyên, Cao Bang, Ba Bể Lake, Mèo Vạc, Ha Giang Province, Hoàng Su Phì, and Bắc Hà.

All meals and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided during the tour. However, alcohol drinks are not included in the price.

"Coung is an old friend if my Dad's from back when he was fixing up Urals and Minsks and before he was doing tours. They would swap parts and tips, etc. and my dad would hire Coung's shop to do fabrication and anything else he couldn't do himself. My dad left in 2004 the year after I went back to the states). Fast forward 12 years. I show up unannounced, wife in tow, in Hanoi. Coung treated me (and my wife) like I was his long lost friend, even though he was prepping for a trip. My wife and I are already planning our next trip to Vietnam so we can take a tour."

"I came to Cuong's Motorbike Adventure looking to buy a secondhand bike to ride down to HCMC. Cuong was very communicative over messenger and met me at the shop, where he quickly whipped 10 minutes away to his garage to show me what he had in stock."

"After some discussion, it turned out that the bikes he had were not what I was looking for (due to lack of research on my part) and it was then clear that I wouldn't be purchasing anything from him. Still, he was incredibly polite and helpful and wished me the best of luck on my adventure, even after spending a solid 45 minutes of his day with a customer that didn't buy anything and did not ask for a cent in return."

"I highly recommend Cuong and his company if you are on the fence about buying or renting a motorbike in Vietnam! Thank you again!"

"I had a fantastic time with Cuong and his crew. 2 World War II Jeeps and a Ural Sidecar was used to transport us through the fantastic countryside from Hanoi to Mai Chau overnight homestay and return the next day. I highly recommend this mode of travel if you're into a bit of adventure and also with women who don’t ride, had a ball. It is great value for money."

"We enjoyed a fantastic trip with Cuong to northern Vietnam. We were a group of middle-aged friends. They all who rode the Ural bikes bar me who drove one of the 1970’s Willys Jeeps. It was well-organized with Cuong ringing ahead all the time to check our bookings. The hotels varied according to the rural location but always by your own choice."

Through the knowledge and the kindness of the staff, Cuong sure knows how to organize bike adventures through Vietnam. It is a unique experience into the wilderness of northern Vietnam. They give you an excellent service for sure!"
