Hotel Riad Mamouche

Hotel Mamouche is located in Merzouga, on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Built in the Berber tradition, you will feel that you have been transported back in time to an ancient world but with all the modern conveniences. Riad Mamouche offers a rooftop terrace and an outdoor swimming pool. Wi-Fi is free.

All of Mamouche’s rooms are air conditioned with en suite bathrooms. Guests are invited to relax in the riad’s private courtyard with fountains. Hotel Mamouche’s restaurant serves traditional Moroccan food such as tajine and couscous.

The patio

In Islam, paradise is a garden - "a sheltered corner of peace and freshness - an Eden disturbed only by the singing of the birds and the sound of water splashing in the fountains". Guests at Riad Mamouche will feel they have indeed found paradise as they catch a first glimpse of the tree-filled patio with its central fountain. Intimate seating alcoves are ideal for breakfasting, reading, sipping mint tea or eating a delicious dinner, served by the charming and attentive staff.

The salons

The elegant salon on the ground floor is cool in summer yet cosy in winter with comfortable seating around an open fireplace and dining tables for intimate dinners. There is another large salon on the first floor with a splendid fireplace and a high domed ceiling, Both salons have a small hi-fi and a free wifi broadband internet access for laptops in the first floor salon. Guests have access to an honesty bar at all times and are very much invited to regard Riad Mamouche as their home while they are in Merzouga.

The terrace

With its spectacular 360 degree views of the village of Hassi Labiad and the big dunes of Erg Chebbi, the terrace of Riad Mamouche is the highest in the whole neighbourhood. The dunes of Erg Chebbi, the Hassi Labiad village and the fascinating rooftops of the the desert are laid out in an unrivalled visual panorama. A combination of casual seating on the terrace and comfortable lounging under the Berber tent allows guests to enjoy breakfast, lunch, aperitifs, and dinner high above the rooftops of Merzouga.


The Riad Mamouche has four double bedrooms and four suites, and four twin all with en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are simple yet stylishly decorated with great respect for tradition and authenticity. The overall style is sober and refined with simplicity, comfort, and tradition as the guiding principles. Each room has its own bathroom with shower, WC, and basin, and there is plenty of storage space. Rooms are also air-conditioned and equipped with Wi-Fi in all rooms for free, a hair dryer, complimentary toiletries, and a safe for personal use.


Day 1 (72 kilometers / 44 miles)

You will leave the headquarters in direction of the dunes to visit the oasis in the middle of the dunes, pass by the lake of Yasmina and the oasis of Tisardmin. From there, you will go to the oasis of Safsaf. You will have lunch at a picnic to rest a bit and then take the track between Tisrdmin and the dunes to cross the dunes and return to the hotel.

Day 2 (75 kilometers / 47 miles)

Departure from the hotel and pass near the lake of Ayt Serji, visit the village of Khamlia to see how the Afrikaan Gnawa music is played, go to the Mifis Mines, go through the Paris Dakar track, visit the nomads of the area and take a tea with them, and then cross the dunes towards Oubira oasis, where you will have a picnic to rest a bit and cross the dunes to the big dune of Erg Chebbi, watch the sunset and return to the hotel.

Minimum age to drive these vehicles is 16 years old, and no driving license is required. Sometimes, for each driver, you can add a passenger and you can alternate driving. If you have special requests do not hesitate to contact Desert ATV Quad.
