Desert Soul Adventures is proud to announce this guided enduro motorbike desert off-road tour in Algeria! The country has been, for the last decades, unfortunately, infamous for its security issues in certain parts of its territory. The logical consequence was that certain areas suffered travel restrictions for foreigners and it has become almost impossible to even enter this vast and charming country and ride on a motorbike around. But the security has improved over the last years and the authorities have turned on a green light for tourism again, guaranteeing your safety. And so, organized guided and supported enduro dirt bike motorcycle tours are possible again in Algeria!
Tents and sleeping-mats for all nights which are not spent in the hotel will be provided by Desert Soul Adventures. Kindly bring your own sleeping bag that will provide you with a comfortable sleep at temperatures down to -5 degrees Celsius. Nights 1 and 9 will be spent in twin rooms at hotels.
Desert Soul Adventure's Enduro motorbike tour will start and end in the town of Djanet in south-eastern Algeria and cover the area of the amazing Tadrart Rouge, which is the Algerian extension of the famous Libyan Akakus Mountains, and the Tassili n'Ajjer National Park.
Along the approximately 700 kilometers, ridden across eight days on the motorcycle, enjoy some superb desert sand riding and be amazed by the incredible beauty of the rock formations that meet sky-high dunes of mostly yellow and red color!
You will be met by Desert Soul Adventures at the airport in Djanet and brought to the hotel. After accommodating in the hotel and relaxing with a drink or two, a motorbike tour briefing with your guide and the local guide will take place. The bikes rental documentation will be sorted out on that occasion as well and rental bikes will be handed over. Time permitting, ride downtown and get a feel of this part of the world. Dinner and overnight will be in the hotel.
In the morning, you will really start the enduro motorcycle desert tour and leave “civilization” by driving to the desert. You will already see the first rock engravings on this day. Stop your motorbikes for lunch at a beautiful spot in the desert and later continue on towards the gorge of El Berdj which will be reached in the afternoon.
The camp will be set up at this magical place, surrounded by rock paintings and engravings. The local cook will prepare you your first desert dinner here and he'll keep doing it until you finish your supported desert enduro tour in the Tassili n'Ajjer area of Algeria.
This day will be your grand entry into the world of impressively high and soft dunes. After a good day on the motorbikes, in the late afternoon, set your bivouac at the foot of the famous Moulanaga dune.
After seeing some more rock engravings and rock paintings, the color of the sand surrounding you will turn from yellow to red and you’ll ride between pink dunes and rock carvings. In the afternoon, you’ll reach the beautiful red dunes of Tin Merzouga some of which climb up to 600 meters high. The Algerian enduro tour will settle for the night right here.
After breakfast, prepared by your local cook, head into another part of Tin Merzouga sand dunes and try to reach its highest peaks. Afterward, crossing the Wadi Indjaren with its rock paintings and engravings will impress you again. Set up camp surrounded by the beautiful landscape of In Tihaq sand dunes. The motorbikes will probably have to be serviced after this tour day, if not before.
The guided enduro tour in Algeria will turn the loop back towards Djanet on this day, to visit the black sand dunes of Adjlati and see a rock, shaped like an elephant. Stop for lunch at Tigharghart and visit the beautiful engraving of a "Crying Cow", dating back to 8000 BC.
You will reach Djanet in the morning, take a shower, and prepare for the next part of your trip. The next desert bivouac on your Tassili n'Ajjer enduro tour in Algeria will be set in the middle of the incredible Adaik stone forest, famous for its beautiful sunsets.
Start your ride in Adaik and end in Erg Admer where you'll spend the night.
Crossing a beautiful desert landscape, this day will slowly lead back to the town of Djanet where the motorcycle tour in Algeria will be wrapped. Reach the hotel full of fond memories both of desert enduro riding and incredibly impressive nature. Say goodbye to your Touareg guide and the cook and then wash, lube, and load the bikes on the support truck and reorder your luggage for the departure. Dinner and overnight in the hotel in Djanet.
Depending on the flight schedule, the night may be pretty short (on certain days, flights leave Djanet at night). The Algerian motorcycle tour will come to an end. End of Desert Soul Adventures' services.
A hard enduro bike with a 21-inch front wheel and hard enduro or cross tires, capable of developing 100 km/h of top and 80 km/h of continuous speed (the lighter, the better, Desert Soul Adventures strongly advise it to be under 140 kilograms); Desert Soul Adventures' rental bikes certainly comply with these criteria.
A sleeping bag that will provide you with a comfortable sleep at temperatures down to -5 degrees Celsius; a tent and a sleeping mat is provided by Desert Soul Adventures.
Enduro equipment for maximum daytime temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius (MX helmet with goggles, body armor, enduro jacket, backpack with a minimum three-liter hydration bag, two pairs of MX gloves, knee protectors, MX or enduro pants, and MX boots).
If you are a complete newbie to enduro (but not motorcycle) riding, a couple of trials bike lessons will be much better for you than motocross training.
A valid driver's license is required to take part in this adventure on the motorbike as you'll also be riding on public roads. Desert Soul Adventures does not check your license but prior to the first driving stage, you will have to sign a declaration that you possess one and that you will ride according to your experience and capabilities and entirely on your responsibility. In case of an emergency, the insurance company might require you to present your valid driver's license.
Light clothes for during the day and warm ones for the evenings; head-lamp for the camp; and a good mood and reasonable physical shape for the planned stages, each participant will receive ahead of time all the necessary information about the trip: how to prepare the bikes if not rented from Desert Soul Adventures, when to arrive to the starting point of the tour, as well as what to take with you and what to leave at home.
Desert Soul founder and professional tourist guide since 1996 with profound knowledge about Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Jordan, Libya, Croatia, and Slovenia; Tilen's fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, Croatian, English, and Slovenian. After having extensively hitch-hiked in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco between 1995 and 1998, he rushed into south Moroccan sands that had attracted him since long time ago with a brand new Peugeot Partner in 2001. A decade of learning Arabic proved very useful in desert countries he visited afterwards. The following years brought him fulfillment of his teenage dreams.
Tassili n'Ajjer National Park is also famous for its prehistoric rock engravings and paintings, dating back as much as 12,000 years ago; among several stops during your daily stages on the motorbike tour in Algeria to get aware of the moment and feel the beauty and tranquility of the desert, you will also discover some of the engravings and paintings of ancient fauna that existed here before 5000 BC, when the present-day desert was still a savanna: crocodiles, elephants, gazelles, rhinos, giraffes, etc.
All breakfasts from Day 2 through 9, all dinners from Day 1 through 9, and mid-day snacks on riding days will all be served during this tour.
