Road safety

In this tour, every time you climb onto a bike, you are accepting some element of danger. You drive safe, under control, and always in convoy. Your biggest safety hazards are the other drivers. Discipline, driving regulation, and enforcement in India are lax. So, the rider must have enough experience and good control over the bike. However, your guides try to minimize this road-sharing problem on the routes, and you and your guides will purposely avoid busy roads, where possible, and will opt for the country roads with little traffic.

This tour will take place around Goa and Karnataka in India. You will arrive in Goa and ride from Goa to Badami, Hampi, Dandeli, Gokarna, and back to Goa.

Badami was the center of the ancient Chalukyan glory. It was founded in 540 by Pulakesi I (535-566 AD), an early ruler of the Chalukyas. Nowadays, Badami is a sleepy little town on a red sandstone ridge. The Chalukyas are credited with some of the best traditions of Dravidian architecture including an experimental blend of older South Indian temple architecture and the Nagara style of North India. Badami is famous for its four cave temples that represent the secular nature of the rulers then, with tolerance and a religious following that inclines toward Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

Hampi, the seat of the famous Vijayanagar Empire was the capital of the largest empire in post-mogul India, covering several states. It is one of the most beautiful, extensive and fascinating of India’s ruined kingdoms. Although in ruins today, this capital city once boasted riches known far beyond the shores of India. The ruins of Hampi of the 14th-century lay scattered in about 26 square-kilometer area, amidst giant boulders and vegetation with the river Tungabhadra in the north and rocky granite ridges on the other three sides. The local Hindu temples are far from deserted and the village that lies in the middle of this moon landscape is very colorful and vibrant with life.

Gokarna is an ancient temple town and center for Sanskrit studies. It is located on the north coast of Karnataka State. Gokarna means "Cow's Ear ". It is believed that Lord Shiva has emerged from the ear of a cow. Gokarna is a town of contrasts as it is a temple town and also a holiday destination. The place is full of palm and coconut trees. The town has got two main streets with temples, shops, and traditional tile-roofed brick houses. The heart of the town is a typical pilgrim center, flanked by small business, worship paraphernalia, souvenirs, and foodstuff. The maze of narrow lanes and alleys are reminders of tradition, which continues even today. Brahmin priests go about busily with their religious duties. A walk through the main street is a truly impressive experience.
