Are you ready to experience Colombia? In this tour, Ricardo will be your riding buddy, not your tour guide. He will share all his knowledge and experience as a local, but most of all, enjoy the ride and the adventures you are about to embark. This is how Epico Moto Adventure sets the difference. This journey will take you to a wide variety of landscapes, colonial towns, and villages where you will experience the local culture and good vibes. Dramatic changes in terrain, altitude, microclimates and food will be a constant along the trip. This will be without a doubt, the adventure of your life!
Epico Moto Adventure will accommodate you in various three to four-star, boutique hotels. The hotels are Casa Amariya, Termales del Ruiz, La Cachaza, Tesoro, La Casa de Lola Garcia, and Descanso y Sazon. On the first and last days, you will stay in Epico Guest House.
Ricardo, Epico owner, will pick you up at the airport and take you to Epico Guest House if you decide to stay with them (no additional charge). After all riders have arrived, you will go out for dinner to get to know your new adventure buddies. Paperwork signing and safety briefing will take place on the first day if time allows.
This epic adventure starts heading up north towards Calima Lake taking the back roads with lots of twisties and some off-road to get your heart pumping. You are headed to El Cairo, a hidden jewel of a town completely untouched by tourism and modern life. You will stay at the only hostal available in town, taste the best coffee in the world and enjoy the town’s 360-degree views to the Andes. Don’t forget to pick up a local bag of coffee to take back home, you will not taste anything better anywhere.
You start the day at the town square for breakfast and then head down to Cartago. You will go from 1,400 meters above sea level to 4,000 by the time you reach your destination. You will ride twisties and mixed terrain all day. The hotel stands near the top of the Ruiz Volcano with a beautiful view down to Manizales, and top this off, an amazing natural hot spring pool will make you want to stay an extra day.
Be ready for some more twisties, some technical off-road sections, ferry ride, old bridges and drastic elevation changes. You will go from 4,100 meters above sea level to almost 200, so have your bathing suit handy.
The location of this next destination is so hidden, that you will need to leave your bikes behind and take the local transportation, which won’t be revealed here but it will surprise you. You will emerge into the deep rainforest to find your shelter for the night.
Get your off-road game on. Everything from dirt, river crossings, rocky trails and sand, about 110 kilometers of it. Today you have the option of staying in a small village if you feel too tired to continue, or carry on to your destination for the day, Sonson, two hours’ away.
Today you will ride through beautiful coffee farms, the heart of Colombia. This road is only used by local farmers to transport their crops. You will find some challenging sections for sure. Salamina is a very charming town, declared a national monument and historic heritage.
This is your last colonial town before heading back to Cali. Also, in the heart of the Colombian coffee region, Salento has become a must-visit destination when in Colombia. From Salamina, you will take the less traveled roads and ride over the Andes ridges where views will take your breath away. You will make a quick stop at a coffee farm to understand a little bit of the production process if time allows. Salento is known for its beautiful arts and crafts, great dining and a gorgeous lookout terrace with views to the Cocora Valley and the Tolima snow peak mountain.
Before you head back to Cali, you will visit the Cocora Valley, near Salento, where you will admire Colombia’s national tree, the Wax Palm, the tallest in the world by the way. This is a must see site because of its unique vegetation and peaceful vibes.
On your way back into The Cauca Valley, you will ride through beautiful sugar cane plantations, the biggest in the country. This is a more relaxed ride mostly on-road, perfect way to ease down after a whole week of intense riding and adventures.
Ricardo will take you to the airport on time for your flight back home. Epico Moto Adventures will be more than happy to assist you in any additional travel plans you may have within Colombia.
You will be riding from four to seven hours per day on mixed terrain, anywhere from paved backroads, to gravel, rocky sections, muddy sections depending on rain. Some days have more dirt than others, you also have options on some routes that we can choose from on or off-road. Experience with adventure motorcycles 500cc and up is required.
Ricardo has been a motorcycle addict since a very young age. He moved back to his hometown in Cali, Colombia after living in the USA for 15 years. During this time, he had the chance to ride motorcycles in USA, Canada and Europe and part of South America. He was always convinced that Colombia was by far, the best adventure motorcycle destination for its variety in terrains, climates, landscapes, and most of all the kindness of its people.
Starting on the first night, Ricardo will take you out to dinner so you get a taste of Cali’s nightlife. Next day, breakfast by Ricardo will be at Epico Guest House. Along the way, you have different options for lunch and snacks, depending on the pace. You will try most typical Colombian dishes, fruits, and veggies. Once you get to your final destinations, you will have a wider variety of dishes to choose from. Vegetarians can always be accommodated. Please let Epico Moto Adventure know about any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
