Program

Besides the best off-road motorcycle ride in East Africa with a view of the peaks of Kilimanjaro, you will experience first hand the unique Tanzanian lifestyle, culture, and cuisine. You will ride to off the beaten track destinations and see untouched natural beauty with distinct animals (wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, and antelopes and many more during the safari day) on the way. Then you will go and enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery of the spice island Zanzibar by riding around, floating on a catamaran, and snorkeling.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arusha

Today is your arrival to Arusha from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). You will be taking time for acclimatization and a nice African dinner together at your beautiful home in a private mansion near Arusha.

Day 2 - Arusha

You will be getting used to the bikes and the African vibes. You collect the bikes and try them out on the dirt. After a few safety lap, you’ll head to a coffee plantation and you’ll visit a Masaii market.

Day 3 - Arusha - Lake Chala (220 kilometers / 137 miles, off-road ride - mostly dirt roads)

Leaving Arusha, you will ride past gravels and newly tarmac roads with a nice view of Kilimanjaro Mountain. You will stop for a swim and lunch break at a hidden gem hot oasis. Arriving at Lake Chala in the evening, you’ll enjoy some cold drinks around the campfire.

Day 4 - Lake Chala - Kilimanjaro National Park (140 kilometers / 87 miles, wide dirt roads and single trails)

You will be riding with the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo in your view. You will have a chance to interact with local Chagga people, the typical conservators of Mount Kilimanjaro. You’ll reach the entrance of the Kilimanjaro National Park, and you’ll have a chance to take a shower under a 75 meters tall waterfall. The road will be nice and curvy by the foot of the tallest mountain in Africa.

Day 5 - Kilimanjaro National Park - Lake Natron (170 kilometers / 106 miles, dusty, stoney, sandy single trail)

You will be riding on a typical African road full of dust up to the small town of Longido. The road is surrounded by grazing wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, and antelopes. You will catch a glimpse of the Oldoinyo Lengai (“The Mountain of God”) before reaching Lake Natron, the breeding site of flamingos.

Day 6 - Lake Natron - Karatu (190 kilometers / 118 miles, good quality dusty roads and some tarmac)

You will ride through rolling country with scattered thorn trees and traditional Maasai people herding their cows and goats - you might also spot zebras and antelopes on the way. You’ll spend the night in Karatu village, the gateway of the Ngorongoro National Park. You’ll change your bikes to land cruiser safari jeeps.

Day 7 - Karatu - Ngorongoro National Park - Arusha

You will enjoy some safari time in Ngorongoro, home to thousands of animals, including the “big five” game: elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino. In the evening, you’ll reach your homebase in Arusha again.

Day 8 - Arusha - Zanzibar

After breakfast, you will catch a plane to Zanzibar, the Spice Island. Chilling on the beach and snorkeling on nearby reefs is the plan for the rest of the day.

Day 9 - Zanzibar

After the very intensive riding and safari days, you’ll enjoy the mellow pace in Zanzibar while sipping cocktails on the beach, or shop crazy tropical fruits on the market. With the most motivated people you’ll visit a spice farm and you’ll do a small jungle tour.

Day 10 - Zanzibar

You will have a full day motorcycle tour of Zanzibar on the iconic ‘Royal Enfield’ bike to discover off-the-beaten-track wonders the archipelago has to offer.

Day 11 - Zanzibar

Taking it easy and enjoying a full day on a luxury catamaran with possibilities of snorkeling and diving in the untouched reefs around Zanzibar. This will be the cherry on the top of an unforgettable adventure.

Day 12 - Zanzibar

Transfer to the airport in Zanzibar for the flight back home.

Motorcycle package

Around the Kilimanjaro you will ride Honda CRF 250 L and XL 250 motorcycles, and then you pick up the Royal Enfields in Zanzibar. Professional local motorcycle guide, a mechanic, and back-up van are all included in the price, as well as petrol and daily motorcycle maintenance. Altogether you will ride around 1000 kilometers.

Road conditions

You’ll ride on dusty dirt roads, gravels, rocky, sandy and forestry trails, up and down hills. You will only ride a bit on public roads, but there you can expect the worst traffic norms to prevail.

Motorcycle gear

Every rider must bring his own motorcycle protective gear and helmet. GoBeyond does not recommend wearing leather motorbike suits as you do not go fast on the bikes and you will have mostly warm weather. GoBeyond strongly recommends bringing good protective top gear, a durable high top riding boot, and a helmet. Don’t forget about your rain clothes, as you will have some rain showers.

Photo and video

All the photos and videos you see are from the actual sights, taken either by the providers or group leaders from the previous trips. They produce high-quality content of all the camps, which you will receive after returning home to remember all the amazing memories.

Advanced motorcycle skills: can ride for five to six hours, comfortable with any terrain and weather conditions. No experience required for pillions and for those who travel in the back-up car.
