Traveling by motorcycle in Morocco is discovering a country of great contrasts. The motorcycle trip to Morocco in September will take you from the Rif and Atlas Mountains to the start of the desert, on the great dune of Erg Chebbi. You will cross the Atlas from north to south and from south to north to Marrakesh, from where you will return along the coast to Tangier, visiting Rabat and Assilah.

You will stay in various accommodations arranged by GR11 Viajes along the route.


Day 1, Saturday: Tarifa - Tanger - Chaouen (190 kilometers / 118 miles)

You are in Tarifa to cross the strait. Arrive in Morocco. After the border procedures, you will have lunch in Tetouan and follow the route towards Chaouen, a charming town where GR11 Viajes recommends a good walk through its blue Medina, characteristic and famous throughout the world. Group dinner and night in a hotel.

Day 2, Sunday: Chaouen - Fez (190 kilometers / 118 miles)

After a good breakfast, you will leave in the direction of Fez. You will arrive in Fez around noon, and after lunch, you will walk through the old Medina. The Medina of Fez is one of the most authentic and best preserved in the Arab world and is a World Heritage Site. Walking its labyrinthine streets will be a unique experience.

Day 3, Monday: Fez - Merzouga (450 kilometers / 280 miles)

In the morning, you will leave for the long route south. This will be a long day, but with many high points, being perhaps one of the best motorcycle routes in all of Morocco. You will cross the Middle Atlas until you reach Ifrane, also called "little Switzerland" because of its great resemblance to that country. You will cross the famous giant cedar forests and see its colony of wild monkeys.

You will have lunch en route and continue towards the desert, passing through the impressive Ziz valley and its palm grove. You will reach Merzouga, where you will sleep in a hotel at the foot of the dunes!

Day 4, Tuesday: Merzouga - Tinehrir (200 kilometers / 124 miles)

In the morning, you will enjoy the magnificent environment of the Erg Chebbi dunes, the most famous in southern Morocco. Lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon, you leave for Tinehrir. Group dinner at the hotel.

Day 5, Wednesday: Tinehrir - Todra - Dades (250 kilometers / 155 miles)

In the morning, you will visit the spectacular Todra gorges. Head towards one of the best-known points in Morocco, the Dades gorges, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. End of stage at Dades. Group dinner at the hotel.

Day 6, Thursday: Dades - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakesh (340 kilometers / 211 miles)

You will leave for Marrakech and en route, you will visit Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco and a scene of various film productions. You will continue towards Marrakech crossing the mountain pass of Tizi'n 'Tichka, the highest paved pass in the country. Upon arrival in Marrakech, in the afternoon, you will make the first contact by visiting the Djemaa el-Fna square, full of life at this time.

Day 7, Friday: Marrakesh - Rabat (280 kilometers / 174 miles)

Free morning until 12:00 to rest in Marrakech. You will leave at that time by highway to Rabat, where you will visit the Hassan Tower and the old medina, which still preserves the spirit of yesteryear. You will discover a totally different Morocco from the one you have seen in the desert and in the Atlas Mountains.

Day 8, Saturday: Rabat - Tanger - Tarifa (225 kilometers / 140 miles)

You will get up and go north, to find your ferry back to Spain, where you will say goodbye and leave seven intense days behind Morocco. End of services.
