This motorcycle adventure allows you more time to focus on exploring and discovering Ladakh. The itinerary has been devised to give you a ”Maximum Leh” experience. Yes, you will have to fly in and out of Leh but what this trip will give you in return, will be beyond compare. You will focus on the Nubra Valley and the remote region of Turtuk. Nubra Valley will enchant you, physically crossing the (arguably) highest motorable road in the world coupled with the surreal vistas Hundar, Turtusk, and Panamik. The Changthang has got to be the most enigmatic of landscapes in this region and if the ride to Pangong Tso does not do it for you, your picnic with Marmots surely will. A rafting trip on the Zanskar, and a final day visiting some historic sights around Leh which is a perfect end to your adventure.
Ride through over 800 kilometers of Ladakh’s spectacular landscapes, soaking in the monuments, temples, monasteries, markets, villages, local food, and everyday life of this remote region.
Delve into culture of Ladakh, and see first hand how it has shaped each region with slight differences. From the Dard tribes of the remote Aryan valley to the village of Turtuk in Baltistan – The very edge of this country.
Experience what it would have felt like to traverse the ancient Silk Route in India and immerse your senses in the beauty of one of Ladakh’s great lakes – The surreal Pangong Tso.
You will stay for nine nights in various accommodations. The start of the trip sets the tone for the rest of the journey and the end of the trip is an intimate moment to reflect, relish, and basically have one big party. The properties Karma Yatri uses at various locations, that serve as start and end points of the itinerary, are unique and carefully selected.
The properties combine the best in hospitality that the region has to offer, great food, and the ability for you all to behave like a group. Please note that although Karma Yatri provides blankets and duvets, it is recommended that you carry a sleeping bag for added comfort.
Transfer to the hotel and ensure that you spend the day relaxing and indulging only in mild physical activities. Keep vigilant for signs of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Meet and greet the team.
You get on your bikes and do an exploratory circuit of the sights around Leh. You will cover easy terrain and will encounter some traffic but the ride is fairly relaxed and filled with stops.
Today’s ride takes you across Khardung La at 5,348 meters (18,400 feet). You cross into the stunning Nubra Valley and ride to the village of Panamik and return to Tirith.
This part of Nubra Valley has opened to tourism only recently and remains untouched in most parts. Its Balti culture is different from the rest of Ladakh and interesting historical facts link this region to the Leh we know today.
You ride through the Shyok Valley (if Wari La is open) and cross back into Leh via another spectacular road in these regions. This is a relatively unexplored part of Ladakh and thereby more special.
There is only one planned activity which takes you on a rafting expedition on the Zanskar. Part of the day is yours to spend in your own style and at your convenience.
The ride to the iconic Pangong Lake takes you across Chang la (another 5,000 meters pass). The surreal beauty of this region and the colors of the lake, from its first view to the ride along its shores will leave you amazed.
You return to Leh on the same roads as the previous day. You break the journey at a special spot and have a picnic lunch. This is an interesting ride because you will be able to see it all again but from a different perspective.
Your last day of this trip takes you on NH1 that runs along with some amazing viewpoints of the Indus River. You visit the historic Alchi Monastery, make a brief stopover at Likir, and take a back road to visit Bagso fort. Return to Leh for your farewell dinner. Tour officially ends on this last night.
Depart from Leh via flight/road.
Two decades of motorcycling and the opportunity to live in many parts of India and Europe. A passion that keeps growing with every riding season. New roads to discover, more friends to ride with is his mantra. He speaks Hindi, Kashmiri, Tamil, English, German, French and a smattering of other Indian dialects. A native of Kashmir means that a vast network that can be called upon in case of any emergency or contingencies.
Chai or the omnipresent Indian tea is a very important part of your trip. From early morning starts to your numerous stops by the road, this (often) milky and sweet beverage is like a road trip elixir, providing a much-needed break for the bum sore you will inevitably experience on these roads.
Food is a mix of local and continental, allowing you to experience the local cuisine but ensuring that your taste buds are not overpowered by the spicy Indian fare.
