Day 2: Manali to Jispa

Wake up early fully recharged and begin your adventure. You will start the ride to Rohtang Pass (3978 meters) via Manali. The beautiful Rohtang pass is the gateway to this bike tour. Rohtang actually means a “pile of corpses” and the name derived from a lot of people dying in bad weather, trying to cross the pass in old times. But do not let that scare you. The 112 kilometers to Rohtang is a feast for eyes because of the beautiful vistas all around you. The road to Rohtang is a mix of super smooth and super rough patches.

Kokhsar is the first village in Lahaul Valley and road bifurcates towards Spiti at Gramphoo, little before Kokhsar. You will proceed towards Jispa as it is the last destination for the day via Kokhsar - Sisu - Tandi - Keylong. Enjoy your stay at Jispa after dinner and recharge yourself for the next day.

Baralacha La (5,000 meters altitude) is where you will encounter snow again. Chances are that you will experience Acute Mountain Sickness for the first time in this region. Road conditions will keep changing from bad to good to bad again in this area. You will be guided to the camps for the overnight stay at Sarchu.

Day 4: Sarchu to Leh

Today will be the most challenging day until you reach Leh. You will be passing through Gata Loops, Nakeela, Lachulung La, Pang, Moore Plains, Tanglang La, Upshi, and Karu. Gata Loops is a series of 21 hairpin bends that take you to the top of Nakeela La, your third high mountain pass on this route.

Right after Nakeela, after descending down for a few kilometers, you will again start climbing up the fourth high mountain pass of this route, Lachulung La, one of the easier passes. You will be passing through Pang then Moore Plains, a 30 to 35 kilometers of plane stretch.

After the Moore Plains, you will start the tough climb. After crossing this pass, you will ride through well-maintained roads all the way to Leh via Gya, Upshi, and Karu.
