The Ho Chi Minh Trail tour takes you through the central part of the Highlands. Here, you will ride some of the famous Ho Chi Minh Highways through the jungles and parts of rural Vietnam that were made famous during the 60’s and early 70’s. At the end, it's time to just chill out or sit down by the water and savor the cuisine while watching the night scene unfold. It's the perfect time and place to reflect on all you have seen and done over the last week.
During the tour, you will sleep in shared rooms at several accommodations chosen by Lucky Bastard Motorcycle Tours.
You will visit Khe Sanh, near the old Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone, now the site of a war museum and see how it is being returned to rural use. You will ride the twists and turns of the Ho Chi Minh Highway to the world famous Phong Nha National Park, where you will have a chance to visit the river cave with its waterfront entrance and chambers or, if time permits, visit the Paradise Cave now recognized as the world’s largest cave.
You will visit the old cultural capital of Hue, now a world heritage site and finish where you started, Hoi An. It's time to just chill out with the cold 4,000 dong beers (about 0.25 AUD) or sit down by the water and savor the cuisine while watching the night scene unfold.
LBMT will pick you up from the Danang Airport and take you to your pre-tour accommodation located in Hoi An. In times gone, Hoi An was the principal port of the Cham Kingdom, which controlled the strategic spice trade with Indonesia from the seventh to the tenth century and was a major international port in the sixteenth and seventieth centuries and now the foreign influences of architecture are discernible to this day.
There will be some time for sightseeing, so, if you can, make your way to Lantern Street in the world heritage old town. Enjoy a break at one of the many bars for a cold ale or two. At night, you will provide a welcome dinner, along with a comprehensive briefing of the journey. LBMT will also provide a map of the intended journey. This is a great time to meet the other riders.

Your guides will make this holiday a pleasant and safe experience as you follow their lead. You will ride over the Golden Dragon Bridge, the longest bridge in Vietnam. This area was the location of several US military bases that saw fierce battles, including Tacon Airport and Hamburger Hill. You will be inspired by the area’s natural attractions and at most times of the year, you are guaranteed to have flowing waterfalls. Do not be surprised that you may have the spectacular ridges and valleys of the greater Annamite mountain range all to yourself.
Today you will travel along the eastern Ho Chi Minh Highway through the historic DMZ, with a must visit Tacon Airport Museum. It is a rest day from the bikes and a day to explore this quiet little town situated in the middle of the world heritage Phong Nha National Park. For the adventurous persons, it is time to go cave exploring! You will visit Paradise Cave, the world's largest cave and marvel at the natural beauty of this spectacular form.
Phong Nha is also home to the cave system that takes the name of the town. The entrance is via the river and the system extends for over 38 kilometers towards the Laos border. It is used as a shrine by the original Champa people and more recently as a refugee during the conflict years. Bring your walking shoes and camera and be prepared for spectacular photo opportunities.
Today, you will head back to the coast and travel along the eastern Ho Chi Minh Highway, through the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone, to the old capital of Hue. Along the way, if time permits, you can visit the Vin Moc Tunnels, where life carried on up to three stories underground during US bombardments nearly 50 years ago.
Hue is home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old Nguyen Dynasty capital, once the religious, cultural, and political capital of Vietnam. Situated at only a short distance from the modern city, the citadel harks back to the time of Vietnam’s emperors and is considered a must-see by many visitors to this country.
Today, you will head down the coast, back to the starting point in Hoi An. You will ride up to the Hai Van Pass located between Da Nang and Hoi An, a road made famous in the Top Gear Vietnam Special. There are plenty of spots for that special photo and plenty of roads for that fun ride.
