You will ride the twists and turns of the Ho Chi Minh Highway to the world famous Phong Nha National Park, where you will have a chance to visit the river cave with its waterfront entrance and chambers or, if time permits, visit the Paradise Cave now recognized as the world’s largest cave.

You will visit the old cultural capital of Hue, now a world heritage site and finish where you started, Hoi An. It's time to just chill out with the cold 4,000 dong beers (about 0.25 AUD) or sit down by the water and savor the cuisine while watching the night scene unfold.

Pre-tour day: Hoi An

LBMT will pick you up from the Danang Airport and take you to your pre-tour accommodation located in Hoi An. In times gone, Hoi An was the principal port of the Cham Kingdom, which controlled the strategic spice trade with Indonesia from the seventh to the tenth century and was a major international port in the sixteenth and seventieth centuries and now the foreign influences of architecture are discernible to this day.

There will be some time for sightseeing, so, if you can, make your way to Lantern Street in the world heritage old town. Enjoy a break at one of the many bars for a cold ale or two. At night, you will provide a welcome dinner, along with a comprehensive briefing of the journey. LBMT will also provide a map of the intended journey. This is a great time to meet the other riders.

Day 1: Da Nang city tour

Nothing in Vietnam is changing as fast as Da Nang. Da Nang marks the halfway point between the capital in the north, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City in the south. Da Nang is also known as the tourist capital of South Central Vietnam. This is a great day for you to be acquainted with the bikes and riding in Vietnam.

Your guides will make this holiday a pleasant and safe experience as you follow their lead. You will ride over the Golden Dragon Bridge, the longest bridge in Vietnam. You will take the time to visit the fine white sand of China Beach and Mỹ Sơn, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in South-Central Vietnam and it is believed to be the longest inhabited archaeological site in Indochina. You will also ride in the Hoi An countryside.

Day 2: Hoi An - A Luoi (240 kilometers / 149.1 miles)

The destination for today is A Luoi that is situated in the north-central coast region of Vietnam. It is located west in the highly mountainous area of A Shau Valley bordering Laos. You will experience firsthand why the XR150 motorbikes are considered possibly the best touring bikes for Vietnam.

This area was the location of several US military bases that saw fierce battles, including Tacon Airport and Hamburger Hill. You will be inspired by the area’s natural attractions and at most times of the year, you are guaranteed to have flowing waterfalls. Do not be surprised that you may have the spectacular ridges and valleys of the greater Annamite mountain range all to yourself.

Day 3: A Luoi - Khe Sanh (100 kilometers / 62 miles)

Today you will travel along the eastern Ho Chi Minh Highway through the historic DMZ, with a must visit Tacon Airport Museum. The battle around Khe Sanh was fought as part of the Tet Offensive, though for the purposes of history, it has taken on a dimension of its own. The Ho Chi Minh trail was used as a supply route during the conflict of the late 60’s and early 70’s.

The now concrete highway twists and turns through the valleys that are the borders between Vietnam and Laos. The scenery is mesmerizing. It is a remote area of Vietnam that gives you some extraordinary riding opportunities.

Day 4: Khe Sanh - Phong Nha (240 kilometers / 149 miles)

Today you are heading to Phong Nha Township. This short journey is fully packed of the best riding available in Vietnam. Around every corner, you will find another mountain road with views to blow you away. The road twists and turns to provide fun for the keen biker and lets you to further explore the XR’s capabilities.

There is not much traffic along this road, but it is still best to remain alert for the occasional truck delivering goods to the remote towns or the occasional cow that prefers the ease of moving along the road.

Day 5: Phong Nha caves visit

It is a rest day from the bikes and a day to explore this quiet little town situated in the middle of the world heritage Phong Nha National Park. For the adventurous persons, it is time to go cave exploring! You will visit Paradise Cave, the world's largest cave and marvel at the natural beauty of this spectacular form.

Phong Nha is also home to the cave system that takes the name of the town. The entrance is via the river and the system extends for over 38 kilometers towards the Laos border. It is used as a shrine by the original Champa people and more recently as a refugee during the conflict years. Bring your walking shoes and camera and be prepared for spectacular photo opportunities.

Day 6: Phong Nha - Hue (227 kilometers / 141 miles)

Today, you will head back to the coast and travel along the eastern Ho Chi Minh Highway, through the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone, to the old capital of Hue. Along the way, if time permits, you can visit the Vin Moc Tunnels, where life carried on up to three stories underground during US bombardments nearly 50 years ago.

Hue is home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old Nguyen Dynasty capital, once the religious, cultural, and political capital of Vietnam. Situated at only a short distance from the modern city, the citadel harks back to the time of Vietnam’s emperors and is considered a must-see by many visitors to this country.

Day 7: Hue-Da Nang (130 kilometers / 80.7 miles)

Today, you will head down the coast, back to the starting point in Hoi An. You will ride up to the Hai Van Pass located between Da Nang and Hoi An, a road made famous in the Top Gear Vietnam Special. There are plenty of spots for that special photo and plenty of roads for that fun ride.

It is time to chill out again and enjoy a few more of those 4000 dong beers while reminiscing about the previous week touring this special part of this wonderful country and discussing when to return and see even more.
