Program

You will leave Grenoble on your BMW motorcycle tour around the Italian lakes for a short ride to the iconic Alpe d’Huez. 21 hairpin turns and 8% grade will set the stage for your tour. On the way up, you’ll be passing cyclists who have to pedal uphill all the way for 14 kilometers to make it to the top. The Alpe d’Huez is a perennial favorite on the Tour de France and for good reason. Thankfully, you have your BMW horsepower to do the hard work for you.

Now that you're warmed up will cross the Col du Lautaret at 2,057 meters arriving in Briancon, a historic fortified town strategically located in the Alps. After lunch and a few souvenir photos, you’ll cross into Italy and overnight along the Lago d’Orta, but not before indulging yourselves in the divine pleasure that is Italian cuisine. Continuing your journey, you’ll make it to Lago Maggiore, the second largest in Italy where you’ll visit the Borromean Islands, a major tourist attraction for their uniqueness, and picturesque beauty.

You will cross to Switzerland. You might recognize Furka Pass (2429 meters), immortalized in the James Bond movie “Goldfinger”. With the Bond theme song is firmly implanted in your head, you can live out your fantasy of 007 on a BMW pursuing an imaginary agent.

Fully accustomed to a steady diet of mountain passes, feast on the Grimsell Pass, even on a bright sunny day in June you’ll most likely be surrounded by snow. Didn’t think you’d need the heated grips in summer, did you? Grimsel Pass is located near the source of the Rhone river.

You will settle down for a night in Lugano enjoying the Mediterranean climate complete with palm and olive trees. The pedestrian-only town center will welcome you with its Mediterranean-style squares and arcades as well as numerous parks.

After a night’s rest, you’ll continue your BMW motorcycle tour Italian lakes. Next up, it’s the Splugen Pass (2115 meters) because it stands between you and Bellagio, a charming town, originally a Roman settlement that became a fortified town. Bellagio has become one of the most famous international holiday resorts. Many noble families belonging to the rich middle class lived here. Today many celebrities have fallen in love with this idyllic place. Who knows who you might bump into? If time permits you might have the possibility of visiting the MotoGuzzi museum which is not far away.

Reluctantly, you must continue along. There is so much to see on your BMW motorcycle tour of Italy and its lakes. Now it is time to visit Como at the southwest tip of the lake. In Como, you can’t miss the Duomo, the villas, and florid parks. After visiting Como, you’ll continue the ride reaching Ivrea. It might be a small town, but it’s got a big reputation for its “orange battle”. Ivrea has a marvelous castle, a cathedral, and a Roman amphitheater well worth visiting. Take some time to stroll around, have a coffee and some pastry that the Italians do so well.

Closing out your BMW motorcycle Italian lakes tour, on your last day you will pass through the popular resort of Sestriere on to Montgenevre resort on the Italian - French border for lunch and then descending to somewhat lower altitudes you will ride along Lake Serre Poncon, one of Europe’s largest man-made lakes finally reaching Grenoble. After decompressing in the spa, you’ll meet at the restaurant for a farewell dinner and karaoke contest. Whoever does the best version of “Goldfinger” gets the prize.
