Spend a fantastic weekend of tribute to the brave souls involved in the landings of the Overlord mission whilst riding some of the best roads in Northern France. Bike your way through the breathtaking coasts of Normandy and feast your eyes on blue crystalline waters, white cliffs, and endless skies. With each destination, delve into a rich history that tells stories of battle and action and of heroism that now forms part of the beauty of France. Travel the routes that will take you yesteryears and all the same, feel alive with the present, on a startlingly real daydream that is Normandy.
During this tour, you will be staying in Port-en-Bessin-Huppain for night one and Brittany for night two. Rooms will be available in double or twin.
Spend a long weekend in quality local hotels which will take you along the Normandy D-Day landing beaches of Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword, all named as part of the World War II Overlord mission. You will also trace the Route de Liberte through Normandy to Le Mont Saint-Michel and Brittany. East of the Normandy D-Day Landing beaches near Sword Beach is Pegasus Bridge.
During Operation Overlord on June 6, 1944, the British Sixth Airborne Division Glider unit took the bridge and was named Pegasus in tribute to them and the importance of the early victory. You will see the tribute to the allied paratrooper hanging from the church in Sainte-Mère-Église.
You will also stop in the historical town of Bayeux and the pretty port town of Port-en-Bessin-Huppain where you will stay for the night in your designated hotel on the pretty portside. A high point of the motorcycle tour is Arromanches-les-Bains and its artificial harbor, known as Mulberry Harbor which played a vital part in the liberation of Normandy in 1944.
The Landing Museum and 360-degree cinema in Arromanches explains Overlord in more detail and the cinema films are projected on nine screens in total giving the 360-degree effect showing both original and more recent footage. You will follow the Route de Liberte on great biking roads down to the iconic Le Mont Saint-Michel on the Normandy-Brittany border.
There, you will check-in for the second night and the next day, you will visit the American cemeteries near Saint-James in Brittany. Take in the scenic route via some fantastic roads back to Cherbourg, passing through the market town of Villedieu-les-Poêles and the border of Calvados where you will say “a bientot” or until the next time.
Your schedule is your own with GPS maps to keep you on target. Check-in to your hotels by 06:00 p.m. each day to ensure your booking is reserved or contact the hotel to advise late arrival.
During this tour, breakfast will be served daily.
