The first night of the tour will be spent at a homestay in Vu Linh.

Have a well-earned rest in a homestay in Ba Be National Park on night two.

Get comfortable in a hotel in Bac Kan on night three.



Day 1: Hanoi - Vu Linh (180 kilometers / 112 miles - 5 hours ride)

Leaving Hanoi and breaking out of the delta plains, you will pass through endless limestone karst scenery and extensive farming lands comprising a sea of paddy fields split by tree-lined roads. You will have lunch in Viet Tri-Town. You will arrive in Vu Linh in the late afternoon and there, you will stay overnight with friends of the Dao's minority in a traditional stilt house. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Day 2: Vu Linh - Ba Be National Park (200 kilometers / 124 miles - 7 hours ride)

You will have two options. One will take you around the very end of the Song Gam mountain range, enjoying good riding on winding sealed mountain roads. The other will cross you over the very end of the range and will take you through the untarnished rain forest on challenging, rocky road. The Song Gam mountain range is the main range of Northeast Vietnam.

From Tuyen Quang, you will continue on a sealed road through renowned tea growing areas where the hillsides are literally covered in plantations. From there, it will be a short ride to the edge of Ba Be Lake. The overnight accommodations will be in a homestay in the Tay family. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

Day 3: Ba Be Lake - Bac Kan (70 kilometers / 43 miles)

After breakfast, you will have 20 minutes to ride up north and visit a very nice local market. You will return to the village and from there, you will have a two-hour boat trip to visit Ba Be Lake. After lunch, you will ride to Bac Kan for two hours. You will arrive in the late afternoon. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided and you will stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 4: Bac Kan - Hanoi (200 kilometers / 124 miles)

Enjoy breakfast. You will leave Bac Kan and head south to go back to Hanoi. You will take the small paved road to avoid the busy traffic. You will have lunch en-route and arrive in Hanoi in the afternoon. Thus, the tour will end.

This tour will take place in Vu Linh, Song Gam mountain range, Ba Be National Park, Ba Be Lake, and Bac Kan in Vietnam. The tour will start and end in Hanoi. The ethnic minority communities in Ba Be National Park live in small hamlets and still maintain a simple way of life, living off the land and fishing from the lakes and rivers. As you venture through the national park, you will have the chance to meet the local people and discover their history and culture.

The many different areas of the national park are steeped in mystery and legends, the stories handed down through many generations. The name “Ba Be” translates as “Three Lakes,” referring to the three parts of the lake, Pe Leng, Pe Lu, and Pe Lam. The lake is the largest freshwater lake in Vietnam, spanning over 500 hectares. It is also the highest, sitting at 150 meters above sea level.

The vast lake is surrounded by impressive karst peaks that make up the Pia Booc mountain range and thick, evergreen forests. Many caves have only been discovered recently and are providing new information about the geography and biodiversity of the area. As well as the incredible scenery, the national park is home to a staggering 1,268 species of flora and fauna, some of which are rare species. It is really is a paradise for any nature lovers.

Researchers have discovered 65 species of mammals, including Chinese pangolins, flying squirrels, macaques, langurs, and bears. As well as the incredible mammals living in the area, researchers have discovered 106 species of fish, 223 varieties of birds, and well over 300 types of butterfly. You could easily while away your time simply looking for the incredible creatures.

Ba Be National Park is the perfect place for any keen adventurer. One of the best ways to experience the incredible beauty of Ba Be is from the water. There, you can trek through the thick jungle, explore mystical caves, kayak down the rivers, and swim in the lakes. Kayaking has the added benefit of being able to get closer to nature which will give you a more intimate experience.

The incredible range of terrain will keep you on your toes and keep your excitement piqued.

The national park itself was only established in 1992, making it feel as if you are exploring unchartered areas. One of the places to visit on your waterborne adventure is An Ma Temple which sits peacefully next to the lake creating a serene ambiance. There, you can bathe in the relaxing atmosphere and learn about the religion and rituals of the local people.
