Enjoy riding with an English-speaking guide who has a real passion for Bolivia and motorcycles. This is a great tour taking place in the majestic Salar de Uyuni, the historic Potosi, and the colorful valley of Tupiza. You will learn about the history, people, and culture of this wonderful country. The riding will be on a salt flat, dirt roads, and ash felt. The bike you will be riding is a Suzuki DR 650 that is perfect for these conditions.

Accommodation

You will stay in a basic salt hostal complete with a bathroom, Wi-Fi, and hot shower for the first night, Hotel Magica de Uyuni, a three-star hotel with a private bathroom, heating, and Wi-Fi for the second night, Hostal Tukos La Casa Real for the third night, and Hotel Mitru for the last night.

Program

Day 1: Uyuni - Tunupa, 150 kilometers / 94 miles

You will arrive at Nomada Experience's Uyuni office at 09.30. After a quick briefing, Nomada Experience will kit you out with your riding gear and get you comfortable on your bike. The first destination will be the old historic mining town of Pulacayo. You will tour the town and learn about its important role in Bolivian history.

You will go back to the town to see the old abandoned steam trains at the Train Cemetery. After taking lunch in the Black Salt restaurant, you head to the small town of Colchani, the main entrance to the largest dry salt lake in the world. You will have a shortstop a the flags and Dakar monument and then ride across to the volcano Tunupa on the far side. Here you will spend the night in a basic hostal made from salt.

Day 2: Tunupa - Uyuni, 155 kilometers / 97 miles

After taking breakfast, you ride a dirt road up the volcano. From here you get a breathtaking view of the Salar, visit a cave with mommies dating back 1300 years, then back down and ride off to Chantani. Here you stop to see Santos museum and rock sculpture garden. In Tuaha you ride back on the Salar, heading to the island called Incahuasi.

The famous island in the center covered in cactus. You take your lunch here for the quinoa soup and the best llama steak. After a tour of the island, you are back on the bikes heading back to Uyuni. Here you will spend the night in the Hotel Magica de Uyuni, a pleasant three-star hotel with private bathroom, heating, and Wi-Fi.

Day 3: Uyuni - Potosi, 220 kilometers / 137 miles

Today you ride 40 kilometers on ash felt, then turn off onto dirt roads towards Tomave. You will see great scenery, valleys full of llamas, colored mountains, and small rivers to cross. You will have a packed lunch which you will eat at the hot springs and take a quick dip. After that, you will ride to Tica Tica and back on the ash felt to Potosi. Tonight, you stay at Hostal Tukos La Casa Real.

Day 4: Potosi - Tupiza, 205 kilometers / 128 miles

After breakfast, you ride for about 200 kilometers of twisty ash felt road to Tupiza. You will arrive in Tupiza for lunch. This afternoon, you have time to relax, enjoy the swimming pool and the warm climate. You will stay at Hotel Mitru.

Day 5: Tupiza - Uyuni, 200 kilometers / 125 miles

Today you will ride another 200 kilometers to Uyuni on a nice twisty ash felt road. You will stop in the mining town of Atocha for lunch on route. You will arrive back at Nomada Experience office in the late afternoon and the tour finishes here.

Note: During the rainy season (January to February), it is possible that the routes will be changed due to weather conditions. You need to book the tour minimum two weeks in advance.

Please book your flight to arrive at Uyuni Airport (UYU). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Nomada Experience will pick you up from the airport.

You can take a bus from La Paz, Calama (Chile), Sucre, Potosi, or Villazon.
