Program

Day 1 (150 kilometers / 93 miles)

After a briefing you depart the Chiang Mai traffic and head west, hitting some singletracks through dense woodland before dropping down the mountains, following a double trail beside and through a river in the Doi Inthanon National Park. After lunch, you'll have a short ride on tight twisty tarmac into Mae Chaem.

Day 2 (130 kilometers / 81 miles)

Your second day starts on a nice trail departing Mae Chaem before you turn on challenging singletrack climbing up the mountains, which will leave you with weary limbs but immense satisfaction. The rest of the day will be riding on double trails winding through great mountain scenery and the Mae Tho National Park. After arriving at the hotel, you can relax by the pool situated on the edge of the Salaween National Park.

Day 3 (200 kilometers / 124 miles)

Today starts with some exhilarating double track which offers spectacular views as you head down the mountains and then pass through a number of villages with plenty of river crossings along the way, before starting a steep climb to keep you on the ball. This is the longest distance and time covered in one day and we hope to arrive at the hotel with at least one hour of daylight to relax by the pool.

Day 4 (100 kilometers / 62 miles)

Today's ride has some really nice single tracks, jungle-covered trails, and tranquil river trails, creating a unique feeling of being miles from civilization and should see you relaxing by the pool around 2 p.m.

Day 5 (130 kilometers / 81 miles)

Today's ride will take you up high in the mountains along the Burmese border, as you sample some of the best roads, riding the famous Mae Hong Son loop coupled with the customary fantastic views. You then move on the "real stuff" which will be mostly double trails enclosed by a stunningly picturesque jungle with a section of about twenty kilometers of challenging single track running through a jungle ravine.

The offroad will take you up and into Myanmar where you will have a very basic lunch in a Burmese village. Arrival in Pai should be expected at about 4 p.m. where you will have a lovely pool area again.

Day 6: Rest day

After around 700 kilometers dirt roads, single tracks and some twisty tarmac you earned a "relax day". The staff will give your pants and jerseys to laundry and check your bikes while you have time to chill and stroll around. Enjoy the special atmosphere of Pai!

Day 7 (130 kilometers / 81 miles)

After everybody is fresh and cheerful again, you leave from Pai today and ride on double trails across a mountain range towards Wiang Haeng, where you meet the young Mae Taeng River. Another highlight of your trip is waiting for you that starts with a river crossing, followed by steep uphills and downhills with no shortage of ruts and small creeks to cross.

This stunning section through dense jungle and forest ends at the valley of Mueang Khong where you have lunch in a simple restaurant mostly frequented by Lisu hill tribe. After the break, you continue on a tarmac roller coaster. Across mountain ranges north of the majestic Doi Luang Mountain you get to your resort at Chiang Dao.

Day 8 (90 kilometers / 56 miles)

You head to your next destination, Phrao, a small province town just 50 kilometers away. Enjoy challenging singletrack through a dense bamboo forest and stunning views on a twisty tarmac which stretches along limestone mountains, farmland, and lush green jungle.

As you arrive in Phrao around noon, you drop your luggage at the hotel and have a break. In the afternoon, you disappear in the woods and ride to a secluded hill tribe village hidden in a tiny small valley on the banks of a little river where some families still live without electricity.

Day 9 (100 kilometers / 62 miles)

After riding on paved roads yesterday, Phrao Outdoor Adventure wants to kidnap you on stunning smugglers paths into the high mountains of the Sri Lanna National Park today. You pass through some little villages of different hill tribes on your loop to a settlement of Yunan Chinese.

These trails are absolutely off the beaten tracks! On the way back, you climb up to the summit of the highest peak in the Khun Tan Range. The rough trails up Doi Mon Laan (1695 msl) go along steep slopes with breathtaking views.

Day 10 (140 kilometers / 87 miles)

Your last day begins with swinging up 1000 vertical meters and 160 curves on a paved road. At the pass hight, you meet the ridge road that marks the border of the two northern districts Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

Covered in dense mountain forests, you follow this stunning stretch of double track southwards. Around 60 kilometers dirt roads on which you pass through a few villages with coffee and tea plantations in deep jungle ravines.

Back to civilization and paved roads, you relax on a stretch of 10 kilometers paved, main road and head to the famous Buatong Waterfall. Let's have the last break with some cold drinks before you disappear on trails in a large teak forest.

Single tracks, double trails, ruts, the last section of your journey has it all! No better way to finish this unforgettable trip. Uuups! There are a few paved kilometers in traffic left back to your hotel.
