BMW Motorbike Tour Portugal

Sea, sun, open plains, space, seafood, and plenty of cows are how Portugal Motorcycle Tours would best describe the South tour. This is a trip through the wild Atlantic Coast of south western Portugal where the Portuguese fish is at its finest quality and through the open plains of Alentejo where cattle and black pork make up a delicious food landscape. Also, included in the trip is a journey through the private Algarve where deserted beaches, barbecues in the middle of orange groves, and boat rides make up for an extraordinary journey.

Day 1: Lisbon arrival

It’s your arrival day with a welcome dinner and the first contact with the motorcycles which will lead you along the most beautiful landscapes!

Day 2: Lisbon to Coimbra (363 kilometers / 226 miles)

The adventure begins in Lisbon. You will ride from Belém to Cascais by the riverside on the way to Cabo da Roca, the western most extent of mainland Portugal and continental Europe, and the romantic Sintra often referred to as the city of love.

North is your first direction, as you hit the back roads of the Center-West Atlantic coast, passing through fishermen and surfers villages (Peniche and Nazaré) and vast fruit orchards. Until Coimbra where you finish your first riding day, you’ll pass on one of the most beautiful sea side roads called the Atlantic road, where you have the ocean always with you!

Day 3: Coimbra to Crato (304 kilometers / 189 miles)

A very beautiful mountain view and roads are waiting for you! This is one of the best riding days along with the 26 schist villages that are spread across the central region between Coimbra and Serra da Estrela. They cling to mountainsides and rest on riverbanks. They ooze old world charm and personify the greatness of Portuguese culture.

After climbing to the highest continental spot, you’ll have a charming lunch at a very cozy restaurant on “the top of world”! The afternoon will be descending and start your way to the Alentejo plains. End the day on the glamorous and Moorish village of Crato.

Day 4: Crato to Tavira (350 kilometers / 217.5 miles)

Almost all the Alentejo’s roads are plains with the cork tree and vineyards making the best of the landscape. Going down to Algarve near by the Guadiana’s River, you will find small villages all with the influence of the Arabic architecture because of their strong domain in the Iberian Peninsula (711-1492). Reaching the Algarve, the odor of the beach and sea join you as the warm temperature.

Day 5: Tavira to Vila do Bispo (237 kilometers / 147 miles)

You will ride your motorcycles through Portugal’s playground, a mix between the mountains and the beach. The two mountains, Monchique and Caldeirão, lead you to their famous mountain roads and views. The journey ends when you reach the tip of Europe in Sagres and see the place where the ancients believed that the land ended and sea began.

Day 6: Free day

Today is your free day to enjoy the beach and sun of Algarve. If you are into it, you can try several sports and activities in the sand and sea!

Day 7: Vila do Bispo to Lisbon (326 kilometers / 203 miles)

From here, it's a drive up to Lisbon, wiggling your way through one of Europe’s widest coastlines and certainly one of the most exciting ones as well. A surfer’s and an adventure seeker’s paradise, this coast has razor sharp cliffs which serve as a wall to the relentless pounding of the Atlantic.

Now, imagine sitting comfortably in an empty cliff, eating some grilled fish, and chatting away with the locals as nature takes its course in front of you. This is what you call freedom!

You need to be minimum 26 years old and have an international driver license for joining the tour.
