In Portugal, they call the North their father land, the place where the country was born. Here, the small thousand-year-old villages still remind us of this long heritage, along with their traditions and people. Join the North tour and discover the most remote and forgotten region of Portugal, which happens to be also the one with the most friendly people and arguably the best food!
You will stay at four-star hotels throughout your journey.
It’s your arrival day with a welcome dinner and the first contact with the motorcycles which will lead you along the most beautiful landscapes!
The adventure begins in Lisbon. You will ride from Belém to Cascais by the riverside on the way to Cabo da Roca, the western most extent of mainland Portugal and continental Europe, and the romantic Sintra often referred to as the city of love.
North is your first direction, as you hit the back roads of the Center-West Atlantic coast, passing through fishermen and surfers villages (Peniche and Nazaré) and vast fruit orchards. Until Coimbra where you finish your first riding day, you’ll pass on one of the most beautiful sea side roads called the Atlantic road, where you have the ocean always with you!
This day is dedicated to the Europe’s next food and wine mecca, Porto. It will be a small ride by the sea side and then a very tasty tour! You will be sure to taste all the delicacies prepared by the little eateries and small restaurants that make up the Porto food scene.
You make your way up the Douro Valley following every turn of the river in a discovery of the world’s oldest and certainly most beautiful wine region in the world. Adding to this landscape, ride the Portuguese national road number 222 (Régua to Pinhão) that has been recognized by a number of travel and motorcycle rental companies as the best riding road of the world.
Studies say that the road has the perfect value 10-1, which means every 10 seconds spent in a straight line are followed by 1 second in a turn. The mirror-like surface of the Douro and the corrugated lush green hills will be the backdrop to one of the most beautiful rides of your life!
You are at the end of the Douro, right next to the border with Spain, you continue your trip to the north, to the forgotten, and unexplored Portugal of Trás-os-Montes (literally translated as behind the mountains). Here, you will travel through a Portugal that stood still in time for decades. You will feel your motorcycle winding up between this nature as pure as it can be. This journey of pure air ends in Bragança and its castle and you will feel ten years younger!
Today, you will have a magic ride through the national park of Peneda-Gerês, then extend from the plateau of Castro Laboreiro to the plateau of Mourela, covering the mountain ranges of Peneda, Soajo, Amarela, and Gerês. Discover this vast amphitheater sculptured by geological formations, winds, and water.
From the ride on the mountain, you’ll see the effects of the last glaciation, find the locals in the traditional village, and indulge in the local cuisine. The natural resources of this privileged landscape are set in the mountainous areas in northeast Portugal. The soil, water, flora, and fauna have all been preserved.
The return to the seaside is going to be your last day and meet Viana do Castelo, the Atlantic city further north in Portugal. The presence of the river, mountain, and sea makes this city with the best landscapes. The streets and alleys attract your attention for their characteristic facades with mosaics that are an important feature of the Portuguese architecture.
Your last lunch will be in the historic city of Barcelos, with its important Gothic medieval bridge, dating back to the fourteenth century and the rooster of Barcelos as an element that identifies both this region and the entire nation of Portugal! Then, you will head back to Lisbon where this epic tour ends!
Notes: You need to be minimum of 26 years old and have an international driver license for joining the tour.
