Program

Day 1: Welcome to Laos

You will be greeted at Wattay International Airport (VTE) and transferred to your hotel for checking in. After a welcome briefing, you’ll meet the trusty steeds that will be your close companion for the ‘Laos Leg’ of your adventure. If you require any adjustments to suit your personal preference, then just say the word and Ride Expeditions will get it done. You will then take the bike out for a test-ride and cruise around Laos’ capital city of Vientiane.

Vientiane has been the nation's capital since 1563 after fears of a Burmese invasion of the North. Just like the rest of Laos in general, Vientiane has a very laid back and friendly atmosphere. In the evening, you will enjoy a stroll along the banks of the Mekong River (and quite possibly sample a cold ‘Beer Lao’ or two!) before further getting to know each other over a delicious welcome dinner.

  • Accommodation: Hotel with a pool
  • Included meals: Lunch and dinner

Day 2: Vientiane - Muang Fuang, 175 kilometers / 109 miles

Time to saddle up and hit the road for the first day of this Laos adventure! You will head west, following the Mekong River along a mix of tarmac and dirt roads. You will find yourself instantly immersed in rural Laos as you pass through bamboo groves and hill tribe villages, witnessing spectacular views of the Thailand / Laos Mekong border. You will visit a lake to enjoy a relaxing lunchtime cruise before venturing onto some singletrack trail. As you are near the destination of Muang Fuang district, you will explore a local market where you will buy ingredients for tonight's BBQ!

  • Accommodation: Charming ‘Lao style’ wooden house and private tents
  • Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 3: Muang Fuang - Sayaboury, 270 kilometers / 168 miles

Some cracking riding today, you ride on dusty roads, logging trails, and singletrack. You will meet with the support vehicle at lunchtime where you’ll enjoy a western style picnic lunch prepared for you by the team before an exciting crossing over the Mekong River on small wooden longtail boats over to Ban Namphou. You will then ride winding dirt tracks through the hills before turning North on a scenic tarmac road through a national park.

  • Accommodation: Town guesthouse
  • Included meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 4: Sayaboury - Luang Prabang, 130 kilometers / 81 miles

This morning, you will enjoy breakfast at an elephant sanctuary where the owner will give a talk to the group, explaining the hugely important role this place plays in North Laos. Whilst you won’t actually be able to meet the elephants here, it is still a beautiful place to have breakfast and a great way to learn more about the state of the elephant population in Asia.

Today, you will ride some beautiful trails and riverside tracks, stopping to visit an amazingly beautiful waterfall before arriving at the riverside town of Luang Prabang, a city that has been awarded as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will enjoy a sunset cruise along the Mekong River, after which you will have the chance to explore the town by yourselves. There is a fantastic night food market and some great riverside restaurants and bars in this town.

  • Accommodation: Boutique hotel with a pool
  • Included meals: Breakfast and lunch

Day 5: Luang Prabang - Nam Ou Riverside, 40 kilometers / 25 miles

Today is a varied day of riding; quiet paved roads through tea plantations, narrow dirt tracks, and back roads through the mountains and villages.
