During this tour, you will experience a combination of accommodations with different features depending on where you are. From hotels, log cabins, formal campgrounds, to wild camping. When camping, you will be provided with all the equipment required.

British Columbia and Alberta hotels are very available along the highway and backroad sections. The actual room availability and the standard is variable depending on the region, how far in advance it is booked and how busy the season is. If you are looking for higher-end accommodations, you are recommended a very advanced RMABTC booking so that they can secure consistent accommodations along the planned route. This is an extremely popular tourist vacation area and quickly becomes booked up to a year in advance.

Cabins are a wildly popular option on RMABTC tours. While the type of cabin is variable from a luxury cabin at the cost of a high-end hotel to the extremely popular KOA cabin, most riders seem to love the latter. Adorable and the best of both worlds, these little cabins have power, usually a queen and a set of bunk beds, a fire pit, and access to full amenities. Often located with pools or hot springs to enjoy. Pull up to a ready-made cabin, just requires your bedding.

Wild camping and campgrounds in Alberta and BC is a spectacular way to spend your vacation. The thick forests and sparkling lakes always provide a stunning backdrop to campsites. Campgrounds usually offer most amenities depending on locations. Chances to photograph wildlife and fully experience the great Canadian wilderness is at a premium. Included in your Giant Lop panniers are a two-person HubbaHubba MSR tent, Thermarest expansion pillow, Lamina Z Flame sleeping bag, Luminaid tent light, compact towel, Jetboil, Utensil set, Sea to Summit cooking and plate set, Gerber knife and multitool, bear spray, horn and bells, wash net, medical kit, emergency kit, and fire lighting kit.

Day 1: Arrival

The support vehicle will pick you up at the Calgary Airport (YYC) and transport you to the starting point hideaway cabin in Nordegg, where your expert guide will go through the bikes with you and then you will take a short skill level ride by exploring the many trails around the historic mining settlement.

Day 2: Heading north

This is your first true day off road exploring 200 kilometers of the "forestry trunk road" traditionally still a working route made up in various parts of anything from loose mud and shale, to graded gravel.

Some sections will prove challenging but your guide will keep the pace suitable for all levels of rider so you can take your time to explore trails off the route, including (conditions permitting) the Pembina River Road and Brazeau Canyon. For the overnight stay, you may choose from wild camping or a provincial campground with the opportunity to finish the day in the world famous Miette hot springs.

Day 3: Jasper National Park

You will take a small detour on the road to Jasper to explore the Maligne Lake and the Maligne Falls. Then, you will be off to Jasper town site to look at the amazing tourist facilities. In the afternoon, you will head south to the Icefields parkway, one of the top 10 scenic drives in the world taking in the Columbia glacier and returning back to the cabin.

Day 4: Heading south

This time, you will head south on the forestry trunk road, a much less traveled route but offering the opportunity to see Ram River Falls, and all the trails down as far as Waiporus Village. This is the true heart of the Alberta foothills and your guide will again give you the option of choosing between wild camping or a provincial campground for the overnight stay.

Day 5: Banff National Park

You will head in to the Banff National Park with plenty of time to explore Banff and the surrounding area including the historic Highway 1A with an overnight stay at one of Banff's fantastic hotels with a chance to enjoy some nightlife.

Day 6: Return

This will be your big road day with a circular route from Banff to Radium in British Columbia, Golden Trail, Lake Louise, and then up the Icefields parkway Via Bow Summit to return to the base in Nordegg at the local hideaway cabin.

Day 7: Departure

After a relaxing evening round the campfire, you will pack and conclude this adventure by taking you to the Calgary Airport (YYC) or other possible destination.

Alan Buck
Alan is from UK and has now been living in Canada for 10 years. He is a graduate of the original RAC/ACU scholarship program in the early 80's and he was the youngest rider at the time ever to accomplish this, at age 9. Alan has ridden all over Europe and Western Canada and he also teaches adventure riding basics. He is a big Honda fan but has owned Ducati, Royal Enfield, Yamaha, and BM. His current fave is the African Twin.
Matt Bobyn
Matt Bobyn has been a lifelong street and dirt rider spending most of his summers and a good chunk of the winter on two wheels. Although spending much of his time competing on four wheels in the Canadian rally championship, he is equally comfortable exploring the backroads behind the handlebars. A long background of camping, backpacking, and mountaineering has meshed well with exploring the lesser known areas of Western Canada by motorcycle and successfully getting away from the comforts of busy modern life.
