See Iceland like no other tour in the country can provide. This is three days of endless beauty crossing lava fields, entering lava caves, geothermal spas, and mountain summits on mystical peaks. Forget the tour buses and paved roads, leave them in the rearview mirror of your roaring ATV as you speed off into the wilderness for this ultimate ATV experience. It's just you and the trails (and a guide of course) for three full days of meandering trails that cross over this epic landscape. The local best-kept secrets will be at your fingertips for unforgettable experiences Safari Quad is excited to share with you.
You will be accommodated for two nights. Your accommodation varies from hotel to hut or tent, depending on your wishes and what is available.
You'll begin the tour with heart-racing action straight out of Safari Quad's base camp as the first trail your tires hit will be to the summit of Úlfarsfell mountain. A panoramic view over Reykjavík awaits. From there, you'll get an overview of the vast territory you'll soon conquer into the Reykjanes Peninsula before setting off to the trails that wind through the Blue Mountains. This mountain range painted with vibrant green moss offers views only accessible to ATVs and the bravest Vikings. Prepare to be awestruck as you immerse yourself in the wilderness far from civilization.
Your next adventure will bring you well below the Earth's surface in a network of lava tubes in Leiðarendi caves for a guided lava caving tour. More beauty awaits as you pass the remote Djúpavatn lake tucked between the lava crusted peaks. Your final stop of the day will allow you to gain insight on how truly alive the volcanic island of Iceland is.
The Earth cracks and sizzles with mud pools and intensely hot geothermal pools at Krýsuvik geothermal area. You'll make the final push to Hvergerði where a cold beer and a place to put your feet up await. You'll call Hvergerði home for the night. You are suggested to rest up as day one is just a warm-up.
Rise and shine in the beautiful town of Hvergerði. You'll start the day checking out some local hot springs, then head back towards the Blue Mountains region. The trails will wind and twist through the mountains with a storybook-like feel that could really convince you that elves and trolls do really exist.
In the distance, you'll see steam rising from the Earth in great quantities which means you're nearing your next stop, Hellisheiðarvirkjun geothermal plant. This is one of Iceland's largest geothermal plants and the main source of energy for Reykjavík city.
The trails will lead you Mosfellsbær valley and through the Hengill mountain region to arrive at Thingvellir National Park. Icelanders consider this the most beautiful and historically relevant place in Iceland. It is considered the birthplace of Iceland with its stunning glacier-capped mountains, glacial rivers, and lakes. There is plenty to see at this UNESCO World Heritage Site and Safari Quad will make sure you delve into all that it offers.
You'll end the day and tour in the best way possible at Laugarvatn Fontana spa for a cozy relax in the geothermal pools surrounded by peaks towering in the distance.
Good morning, Vikings! Day three departs from the Laugarvatn Fontana spa area after your evening of relaxation. By now, you should be relaxed, rested, and fired up for your third full day of off-road trail adventures. It's your last day, so make it count.
Thingvellir National Park contains trails that meander all throughout the landscape. You're off to take full advantage of these trails leading to summits that give way to panoramic sights across this Viking land. No single place epitomizes the history of Iceland and the Icelandic nation better than Thingvellir by the Öxará river. As you have to make your way back towards Reykjavík, Safari Quad has managed to do so in the most adventurous way possible.
It's up to you and the power of your ATV to conquer the mountains of Hengill that lie ahead. You'll be taking a more challenging route through Hengill to give a different perspective and thrill of this stunning area. You'll revisit Mosfellsbær valley on the way back crossing rivers and mud pools that stand in your way. You'll feel like Vikings after a successful conquest as you see Reykjavík city arising in the distance. You'll be wearing the well-earned dirt, mud, and sweat with pride on the final stretch of this route. As you make your way back to Safari Quad's base camp as the base of Reykjavík's mountains, your guide will congratulate you for your bravery. You will have seen Iceland in the best way possible.
Depending on the accommodation, it is usually a set menu that you can choose from. It is usually a three-course meal at the accommodation. During the tour, there are
sandwiches, snacks, water, and soft drinks.
