Program

Day 1: Hanoi - Thac Ba (1800 kilometers / 112 miles; 5 hours)

There are choices for you. There is up to 80% off-road track along the Red River dyke for however you want to kick off this five-day adventure. After breakfast at a local restaurant, you’ll set off on your preferred route to Thac Ba Lake.

You’ll get there at about 4:30 p.m., just in time to take a small boat ride around the largest man-made lake in the city. You’ll end the day with a Dao family in a village nearby. Your overnight is at a homestay with a local ethnic Dao people.

Day 2: Thac Ba - Xin Man (210 kilometers / 130 miles; 6 hours)

You can do quite a bit of off-road riding today, but it’s strictly for the experienced. Anyway, after a hearty European-style breakfast, you’ll say goodbye to the friendly and lovely people Dao family and take a ride around the lake and emerald palm tree forest.

You’ll then stop for lunch at the town of Quang Binh. After lunch, you’ll tackle old winding track through the old forest that’ll surely give you a

challenge. You can drop by a small waterfall in the forest to shake off the summer heat before taking your day’s rest at a standard hotel in Xin Man.

Day 3: Xin Man - Sapa (220 kilometers / 137 miles; 7 hours)

You’ll set off on the love road to Xin Man. “Love road” simply because it doesn’t just lead you through a barrage of beautiful rice terrace, old forests, and springs, but also across countless market fairs, the cultural signatures of the Northern mountain minorities: Bac Ha fair, Can Cau fair, Nhung Khau Nhin fair, and Cao Son fair. Held for only one day every week, these aren’t just market fairs for buyers and peddlers, but also romantic rendezvous for local lovers.

This stretch of road along the daily life of the local ethnic is one of the highlights of your trip. For the night, you can take your pick between a standard hotel for quiet relaxation or a homestay for a more memorable time with the friendly people here.

Day 4: Sapa - Than Uyen - Mu Cang Chai - Nghia Lo (227 kilometers / 141 miles; 6 hours)

Today is exploration day! You have a plethora of destinations for you to choose from. You can walk around town, peep the local life, or enjoy a cup of Vietnamese coffee so strong it’ll jack your brain to top gear. Then, there’s the spectacular O Quy Ho pass, with cloud-hugged mountains and fog covered valleys, the Mu Cang Chai rice terraces - proposed world heritage.

You’ll take it slow, and enjoy the scenery on the way. Gasp-worthy views and abundant photo ops. The road is long, but you’ll feel rather revitalized! You’ll end the day at a standard hotel.

Day 5: Nghia Lo - Phu Tho - Hanoi (200 kilometers / 124 miles; 6 hours)

On the last day of your trip, Sapa Motorbike Tours suggests that you let their guide pick the route for you. It’s been a long and tiring five days, and so a moderate mix of back-roads and off-road tracks would ensure the safety for everybody as you make your way back into the city just in time for the rush hour or beer hour.
