You will be staying at hotels and guesthouses on a twin-sharing basis. Single room upgrade is available at extra pay. One night will be in a tent camp and one night will be in a yurt.


Day 1: Almaty

On this day, you will be arriving in Almaty. There will be an airport transfer to your hotel. Prepare for a meeting at noon for lunch in a restaurant serving the national food. City tour: You will visit Medeo mountain gorge with the highest sports complex in the world and a unique mud dam.

Then, you make a trip by bus way up to the Kok-Tobe mountain, where you can enjoy the panoramic view of Zailyiskiy Alatau along with the city of Almaty itself. After that, you will return to your hotel and rest. You will meet again to get briefed and check the motorbikes. Next in the plan before dinner, you will visit the important sightseeing spots of Almaty: Park of 28 Panfilovs and a beautiful Cathedral. In the evening, have dinner and you will overnight in the hotel.

Day 2: Almaty - Taraz (500 kilometers / 311 miles)

Today, you will wake up early and have breakfast at the hotel. Right after breakfast, off you go. Today, you will have to cover on motorcycles the biggest distance of the tour: 500 kilometers. You shouldn’t be surprised since you are going through Kazakhstan; the biggest country in Central Asia and ninth place in the world by territory, where these long intervals are nothing in a scale of its infinity. You will ride on the new highway: "Western China - Western Europe”, which was built on the original road of Silk Way. In the evening, have dinner and you will overnight in the hotel.

Day 3: Taraz - Tashkent (310 kilometers / 193 miles)

In the morning, you will continue to ride motorcycles on Central Asia. Today, you will leave Kazakhstan, cross the border, and enter Uzbekistan; a country of flower fields, juicy tasty fruits, and ancient cities of the Silk Road. You will stay in Tashkent; capital of Uzbekistan.

Day 4: Tashkent - Samarkand (330 kilometers / 205 miles)

Today, you will reach Samarkand city, which is one of the oldest cities in the world. Over two thousand years ago, Samarkand originated in the steppes of central Asia and became the main trading center of the Great Silk Road. You will overnight in a cozy hotel that is surrounded by ancient architectural monuments.

Day 5: Samarkand

Today, your motorcycles rest, and you are immersed in the ancient city of Samarkand. Samarkand witnessed the time of Alexander Makedonsky, occupation of great Chingyz Khan and Timur the Lame, possessing a mix of different cultures. In 2001, Samarkand was included in the World Cultural Heritage List of UNESCO. Your city tour will be divided in two parts and you will need no bikes for that.

Before lunch time, you will visit: Gur-Amir mausoleum and Registan square and Bib-Khanum mosque. You will have real pilaf for lunch, which is the national Uzbek meal, the crown jewel of Uzbekistan kitchen. The hottest time of the day, you are going to spend in a hotel and then you can continue with the excursions visiting the Samarkand bazaar. You will overnight in the hotel.

Day 6: Samarkand - Fann Mountains (200 kilometers / 124 miles)

In the morning, you will continue your motorbike tour. Today, you are leaving Uzbekistan with its priceless heritage and are heading to the country of rivers and gigantic mountains: Tajikistan. It is a country with the weakest economy in Central Asia, but with the most friendly and hospitable people.

You will pass on your motorcycles through the new mountain tunnel of Shahriston Pass (3378 meters), which is the shortcut to the Fann Mountains. Some part of the route follows tough mountain roads, but those remote tiny Tajikistan villages are definitely worth it. You are going to arrive to the international alpinist camp: "Vertical - Alaudin” and pitch your tents there on a green field surrounded with snowy mountains. You will overnight in the hotel.

Day 7: Fann Mountains - Dushanbe (160 kilometers / 99 miles)

In the morning, you will make short trekking to Alauddin Lakes where you can enjoy the gorgeous view over the Fann Mountains. Then, you will continue the journey! Going down the Fann Mountains, you will get to the road, leading to Dushanbe through five kilometers of Anzob tunnel, which was built inside Gissar Range in 1980. It's five kilometers of darkness and cold that will rattle your nerves!

You will reach Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. You will visit the national museum to get acquainted with the culture and history of the people. Also, you will visit the square of the city with the highest flag that entered the Guinness Book of Records as the highest flagpole in the world back in 2011. You will overnight in the hotel.

Day 8: Dushanbe - Kalaikhumb (360 kilometers / 224 miles)

You continue your motorcycle adventure and head to Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous province (GBAO). Today, you will get very close to Afghanistan and follow its border, where Panj river will separate you from Afghan villages where Afghan people still live there the same way they used to hundred years ago. You will perform a traditional washing ritual under Ali mountain waterfall, which falls down the rock of 40 meters height. You are going to arrive at Kalaikhum kishlak by the end of the day, where cozy rooms of a guest house are already prepared for you. You will overnight in the guesthouse.

Day 9: Kalaikhumb - Khorugh (240 kilometers / 149 miles)

Today, you will drive on the legendary Pamir highway (M41) on your motorcycles, which was built in the 1930-s during the USSR times in order to develop the Pamir area. It is one of the most unique mountain roads in the world that goes through unassailable terrain. You will pass many Tajikistan kishlaks, where local people, especially local kids, will welcome you gladly with heartwarming handshakes and entertain you with different fruits. You will overnight in the guesthouse.

Day 10: Khorugh

You will have a day off to rest. During the day, you can visit the local bazaar. You can also buy jewelries at the Khorog factory with local precious stones and visit the Botanic Garden. The day will end with dinner and an exclusive concert of local Pamir musicians with traditional instruments. You will overnight in the guesthouse.

Day 11: Khorugh - Bibi Fatima hot springs (Yamchun) (180 kilometers / 112 miles)

You will still ride your motorbikes and follow the border with Afghanistan. Pamir's road keeps up with the abrupt coast of Panj river, separating you from Afghanistan. You will climb over Yamchun fort and reach 3,200 meters altitude. This day and place is needed for you to get over the acclimatization period before the Pamir's high mountains, which is more than 4,000 meters high. Here, you are going to catch an amazing view of the Afghanistan valley at Wakhan Valley and take a bath in the sacred waters of Bibi Fatima hot springs. You will overnight in the guesthouse.

Day 12: Bibi Fatima hot springs (Yamchun) - Murghab (260 kilometers / 162 miles)

You will climb the high Pamir plateau to reach kishlak Murghab, the heart of the high-mountain Pamir, where you will move within 4,000 meters above sea level with Hargush (4,344 meters) and Nazaitash (4,137 meters) mountain passes, as well as endless Alichur Valley with fun yaks. By the end of the day, you will reach Murghab, the highest kishlak on Pamir. You will overnight in the hotel.

Day 13: Murghab - Osh (420 kilometers / 261 miles)

You will continue your motorbike tour on Pamir Highway! Be ready to go through the highest mountain pass in USSR and Central Asia: Ak Baital mountain pass, 4,655 meters high and Kyzyl-Art pass (4,280 meters). From the side, you will try to look at the famous Lenin Peak 7,134 meters (depends on the weather).

You will say goodbye to Pamir and Tajikistan and go down to the warm and bright country of Kyrgyzstan, stopping at Osh city, which is situated in the middle of Fergana Valley. The ancient Osh city used to stay on the Silk Road and it is the second most populated city in Kyrgyzstan after Bishkek capital city. You will overnight in a tent.

Day 14: Osh - Toktogul Lake (326 kilometers / 203 miles)

After tough Pamir, Kyrgyzstan will look like paradise with its beautiful green mountains and gorgeous mountain passes with good roads. You will pass Fergana Valley that provides fruits all over Central Asia and you can taste the fruits on your way through the valley. Your resort is situated on the Toktogul Lake, where you can swim for a while. For dinner, you will have fresh trout from the lake. You will overnight in the resort.

Day 15: Toktogul Lake - Bishkek (340 kilometers / 211 miles)

Your motorcycle tour passes through the colorful mountains of Tien Shan, crossing Kyrgyz ridge through Alabel (3,184 meters) and Too-Ashuu tunnel (3,685 meters) passes. Your passage will take you through the Suusamyr mountain plateau where nomadic yurts and animals are scattered over hills and valleys. There, you will have a tea break in a yurt and have a short rest there. Then, you will arrive in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. You will overnight in a hotel.

Day 16: Bishkek

Today is a day off in the nice Bishkek city for rest after a long week of riding. You will visit the national museum of Kyrgyzstan and walk on the city square. Alternatively, you just can stay in the hotel and lie around in the room.

Day 17: Bishkek - Issyk Kol Lake (380 kilometers / 236 miles)

Today, you will continue your adventure. After Baom Gorge, you will stay on the coast of Issyk-kul, the "Pearl of Central Asia”, a unique mountain lake that is situated at the altitude of 1,609 meters above sea level, included in the list of 25 of the biggest lakes in the entire world and takes the seventh place in a list of the deepest lakes (it is 702 meters deep). 100 rivers flows into the lake, but there are no rivers flowing out of it. You will spend the whole day at the resort, enjoying beautiful water, taking sun bathes, and just relaxing.

Day 18: Issyk Kol Lake - Charyn Canyon (230 kilometers / 143 miles)

You will leave beautiful Kyrgyzstan and cross the border to be back to wonderful Kazakhstan. You are going to visit the amazing Charyn Canyon and climb down to the bottom of it, where you will spend a night in a real yurt, traditional houses of nomads. The whole time, you will be surrounded with fantastic flowers and mystical rocks of ancient canyon.

Day 19: Charyn Canyon - Almaty (215 kilometers / 134 miles)

Your great journey on motorbikes is about to finish. Full of unforgettable feelings, you are going back to the most beautiful city of Central Asia: Almaty. You will celebrate your successful tour in a restaurant, where you will be given certificates and presents as keepsakes of the tour. And after, let the party begin!

Day 20: Almaty

During this day, you may take a rest in your hotel room after a heavy party night or just have a walk around the city and buy some presents for your friends and family. After lunchtime, you will meet up and visit Arasan bathhouse, the biggest one in Central Asia to enjoy hot sauna, relaxing massages, and cold beer. Thus, all clean and rested, you are ready to come back home.

Day 21: Departure from Almaty

There will be a transfer to Almaty's airport according to your flight time.

Silk Off Road Tours: General Terms and Conditions

These General Terms and Conditions of the contractual agreement are a constituent part of the travel agreement between SilkOffRoad Motorcycle Tours (the organizers of a trip) and You (the participant of tour). Rights to deviations, variations or supplemental provisions, which shall be valid only in writing, reserved.

1. Contractual agreement

The tour reservation must be made online by you, on a reservation form available on the operator's website. The agreement will only be made effective upon written confirmation of the reservation, made by the operator. The prerequisite to participate in one of our tours is the online acceptance of this Terms and Conditions. Before starting the trip, you sign a motorcycle rental agreement.

2. Deposit Payment – Final Payment

Together with the reservation confirmation, the you will receive an invoice from the organizers of a trip that is to be paid as follows:

  • Reservation deposit (10%) you have to payment within 10 days after receiving the an invoice.
  • Final payment of the remaining amount (90% balance) must be paid 30 days before the start of the tour.

If transportation costs (fuel costs, fees for certain services, currency exchange rates increase after signing a contract, the organizers reserve the right to adjust the cost of the tour.

The organizer notifies the participant. If the increase in the price is more than 10%, the participant can cancel tour and receive all his advance payments back considering the bank's commissions.

3. Services and Prices

Confirmation provided by the organizers of a trip lists the services in detail and the total amount to be paid. You must provide additional payment for any individual services that you may require on conclusion of the contractual agreement or during the trip.

Any changes to the scheduled routes or overnight accommodation shall not be considered as a change to the offered services provided the changes, deviations or variations do not substantially alter the overall character of the booked trip.

Please bear in mind that a motorcycle trip demands a higher degree of participation and cooperation on your part than a conventional package tour. Many aspects are not completely predicable and cannot be fully planned in advance. We therefore hope you will appreciate any changes that may prove to be necessary.

4. Cancellation

You may cancel the trip in writing at any time before the start of the trip. The date of receipt of the cancellation by the organizers of a trip shall be decisive. If you cancel a tour, the organizers of a trip shall be entitled to demand cancellation costs transferred deposit. The price will not be refunded if the you don’t arrive or arrives too late for the departure. If you miss the return flight or trip home, you must organize the return journey. The participant shall not be entitled to any compensation from the organizers of a trip.

In addition, you are at liability to prove to us a lower loss. Changes to scheduled dates, time and destinations are possible only by cancelling the existing agreement and subsequently booking a new trip.

5. Cancellation by the organizers of a trip

The organizers of a trip shall be entitled to cancel a trip up to 30 days before the start of the tour if the minimum number of 6 participants has not been booked. In this case, the you shall be notified accordingly and the amounts already paid shall be reimbursed in full. No further claims or demands will be accepted.

If it is necessary to cancel a trip for reasons outside our control (force major, strikes, terror attacks, accidents, illness or injury of the tour guide, disasters or similar), the amounts already paid by you shall be reimbursed in full. No further claims or demands shall be accepted. %We also reserve the right to terminate the tour prematurely for the aforementioned reasons. In such cases, we shall reimburse the amount equivalent to the remaining days of the tour (excluding any flight costs). No further claims or demands shall be accepted.

In the event of undisciplined, dangerous or disruptive behavior as well as disregard of road traffic regulations, the organizers of a trip and his authorized tour guides shall be entitled to exclude you from the trip. In this case, the organizers have the right to withdraw the motorcycle. Money for a rental motorcycle does not come back to you.

6. Premature Termination of the Trip by the Participant

If, for any reason whatsoever, you terminate the trip prematurely, you shall not be entitled to reimbursement of outstanding services charged by the organizers of a trip to your account. If it is necessary for you to prematurely terminate the trip for a compelling reason, e.g. due to illness or accident or serious illness or death of a close family relative etc. the organizers of a trip shall assist as far as possible in organizing the return trip home.

7. Complying with Rules and Regulations

You shall be responsible for complying with the respective road traffic regulations. You at your own peril and shall be liable for any damage you may inflict on fellow tour participants or other road users. This requirement also applies when you are following the guide. You must adapt your riding style in the interest of own safety.

8. Passport, Visas, Insurance, Health Regulations, driving license and permits

You shall be responsible for ensuring compliance with the passport, visa, health regulations and driving license, permits of the visited countries and for observance of the respective traffic regulations. If you cannot participate in or must prematurely terminate the tour due to failure to meet these requirements, the organizers of a trip shall be exempt from any liability and shall not be obliged to refund payments to the customer. The main requirement for all countries is a passport which is valid for at least 6 months and an internationally recognized motorcycle driving license. You are also responsible for the safety of your documents and money.

You are responsible for choosing the insurance company. Make sure that your chosen company will be able to cover the necessary expenses in case of an accident and are also able to contact the necessary services in the countries of Central Asia. You are responsible for choosing our protective gear.

9. Liability

The organizers of a trip shall be responsible for thorough preparation of the trip, conscientious supervision and careful selection of the service providers as well as the correct execution of the agreed tour services corresponding to local participants.

10. Liability and Weather

Depending on the season and weather conditions, the tour organizers reserves the right to change the route of the trip and therefore the accommodation if deemed necessary. We always take care to ensure the character of the trip is not altered and make every effort to provide a consistently high standard of services.

The trip dates are chosen such that the prevailing weather conditions in the respective regions are optimally suited to a motorcycle trip. %The organizers of a trip shall bear no responsibility for bad weather conditions that may occur. The participant shall not be entitled to claim reimbursement of the trip and rental costs for this reason.

11. Features tours.

When booking tours, you must consciously understand that you are going on a trip to countries with limited infrastructure and low level of services provided. You must understand that the indefinite and not high level of comfort is the very aspect that is part of the appeal of such trips.

You determine the degree of adventure by choosing a tour.

Accommodation in hotels, tents and yurts is carried out according to generally accepted local national standards of measurement. Noiselessness, water supply, electricity, food quality and communication are not guaranteed in all cases. In such cases, we expect tolerance and a small equanimity from you.

The same applies to the passage of boundaries and registration points where it takes a lot of time and attention.

Travel delays and route changes can also be made due to fuel shortages at gas stations or natural phenomena such as sandstorms, flooded roads and trails, or even due to vehicle breakdowns and traffic accidents. In extreme cases, this may jeopardize the dates of return and travel.

Visa Information

This exciting tour will be crossing four countries (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) and it is important to check the requirements needed each country.


Citizens of 60 countries do not need a visa to enter Kazakhstan. Depending on their nationality, foreign citizens can stay in Kazakhstan for 14 to 90 days visa free. In all other cases, foreign citizens should apply for a visa at diplomatic representations of Kazakhstan abroad. Citizens of 5 countries do not need a letter of invitation (LOI) or visa support provided by a travel agency. The following links provide more details for questions regarding visas to Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan Visa and Support

Foreigners need visa to enter Kazakhstan, unless their country is in the visa-free list. In general, you might have one of the following three:

  • Visa-free entry;
  • Visa upon arrival;
  • Visa at the Embassy.

Another important issue is registration at the immigration police upon arrival in Kazakhstan. Depending on your citizenship one of the following three rules are applicable:

  • Registration should be obtained within 5 days of arrival;
  • After 30 days of stay;
  • Registration is not required, two stamps are put upon arrival.

Citizens of the following countries, who are eligible visa free entry to Kazakhstan, are divided into two: those who do not need registration of stay upon arrival and those who should hurry up to get it resolved within 5 days of entering the country.

Visa and Visa Support

If your country is not in the visa free list, you need to apply for it at the Embassies and Consulates of Kazakhstan. In order to apply for visa, firstly, you need to obtain LOI (Letter of Invitation a.k.a Visa support) from a travel agency. Visa support procedure takes two weeks. After, you will apply for visa at the nearest Kazakh embassy. See below

Kazakhstan Visa Support / Letter of Invitation (LOI)

If you are planning to visit Kazakhstan and your country is not in the visa-free list, you need to apply for Visa Support, also known as Letter of Invitation (LOI), before applying for visa. Visa support is obtained via/from a travel agency. You can apply as early as 3 months, but no later than 20 days before your trip. Application processing time is up to 2 weeks. Approved visa support form is faxed directly to the Kazakh Embassy or Consulate you have indicated in your application. You will receive a reference (telex) number of the approved Kazakhstan Visa Support (LOI). You need to provide it with your visa application.

Kazakhstan Visa Support Requirements

To apply for the Kazakhstan visa support, you need the following:

  • Filled out Kazakhstan Visa Support / Letter of Invitation (LOI) Form;

Note: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reserves the right to deny any application for Kazakhstan visa support without providing further explanations or may request additional information (e.g. , letter from the employer confirming the employment).

It is possible to obtain a visa at the international arrivals lounge of Astana and Almaty International Airports, if there is no Kazakhstan Embassy or Consulate in the country.

Documents required for the Kazakhstan visa:

  • Copy of the first two pages of their passport a valid passport (or international travel document)
  • A copy of their Kazakhstan visa support (invitation letter) with a notification of their visa support number by the DCS of the MFA (or the original individual invitation issued by the Police)
  • Completed visa application form (pdf)
  • 1 passport-size photo
  • Fee and payable on collection of visa
  • For 5 days transit visas, the visa of the destination country and onward ticket (or a reservation) are required.
  • Hotel booking confirmation
  • International flight booking confirmation.
  • The passport should not expire earlier than six months after the validity term of the requested visa. Other necessary documents will be determined by the consul at the time of application.

Visas are issued within 7 calendar days from the day of presenting all documents. Documents are accepted with a visa support letter from the Diplomatic-consular service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Citizens of the following countries are eligible to obtain visa without a Letter of Invitation (LOI, a.k.a Visa Support) if they are applying for single-entry visas of categories A1, A2, B1, B2, D1 and G1, as well as single and double entry visa of category F1.

  • The State of Qatar

  • The Sultanate of Oman

Where to apply for Kazakhstan Visa?

You can apply for the Kazakhstan visa outside of Kazakhstan where Kazakhstan Embassy or Consulate exist.

The citizens of the foreign countries that do not need the letter of invitation can also obtain a tourist visa on arrival at consular posts of the MFA at Astana, Almaty, Atyrau, Uralsk and Ust-Kamenogorsk airports with special applications of travel agencies to the DCS of the MFA.

Types of Kazakhstan Visa:

  • Diplomatic Kazakhstan visa - А1, А2, А3: issued to holders of diplomatic passports and in some instances, when the issue of a diplomatic visa has been recognized expedient. Diplomatic visas are registered without levy of consular fees.
  • Official Kazakhstan visa - B1, B2, B3: issued to personnel of foreign diplomatic and other representations and international organizations, who are not considered diplomatic personnel, and also to foreign citizens and persons without citizenship traveling on business, invited by government bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • Investor Kazakhstan visa - С1, С2: issued to genuine investors - managers and representatives of managerial staff of major foreign companies, operating on the Kazakhstani market or who have genuine plans to develop business projects.
  • Work visas - M1, M2, M3, M4, M5: issued upon provision of a permission for foreign labor recruitment and other documents, unless stated otherwise by an international treaty or agreement of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • Business Kazakhstan visa - D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6, D7, D8: issued to foreign citizens and persons without citizenship traveling to Kazakhstan for business (to attend business negotiations, forums, market research, etc.) upon application of non-governmental legal entities, registered on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • Tourist Kazakhstan visa - F1: issued upon approval of a local travel agency's application, licenses to operate as such.
  • Study visa - L1, L2: issued with permission of the immigration police upon application of educational institutions.
  • Visas for medical treatment - G1, G2, G3, G4: issued to foreigners and persons without citizenship traveling to Kazakhstan for treatment, medical checks, consultations and similar reasons upon application of the relevant institutions and organizations confirming the character of the invitation.
  • Visas for permanent residence - J1, J2, J3: issued upon provision of documents stipulated by the legislation.
  • Transit Kazakhstan visa - H1: issued upon provision of a visa valid to enter the country of destination and relevant tickets with confirmation of departure date from the transfer point on the territory of Kazakhstan, no later than 5 days from the moment of arrival to the port or station in Kazakhstan.
