You will arrive at Cape Town International Airport (CPT) terminal early in the morning after an overnight flight from your home country. South African Motorcycle Tours will meet you at the airport and transfer you by bus to your luxury hotel at Cape Town´s famous Waterfront area. After having a rest and lunch, you will gather and go to the Cape Town base to issue the motorcycle and usage instructions.

You will then go on a guided tour of the picturesque Cape Peninsula visiting Cape Point where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. You will also go to Boulder’s Beach to view a penguin colony. The short tour includes the truly spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive with magnificent photo opportunities.

Day 2

This day, you will leave Cape Town via the up-market Southern Suburbs. You will arrive at the False Bay coast at Muizenberg and then travel around the bay. Firstly, you will ride on a road right next to the pristine beach and then between mountain and sea with views to match any in the world. You will stop for lunch at the coastal resort of Hermanus.

During the afternoon, you will strike inland through rolling wheat fields with fast sweeping bends and reach the sea again at the picturesque fishing village of Struisbaai. It is just a few kilometers from today’s destination at Cape L’Agulhas, the most Southern point of Africa. You will have an overnight stay at Agulhas Country Lodge.

Day 3

Crossing over the wheat fields again, you will arrive at the historic town of Swellendam with beautiful Cape Dutch style buildings. Further along, a quick stop at the aloe factory shop in Alberton is worth the while. Aloe extracts for every conceivable use from facial beauty to rheumatic joints are available.

After Mossel Bay, the truly picturesque Garden Route will really start. You will pass beautiful lakes just inland from magnificent beaches, huge forest plantations, and fertile agricultural land. Possibly the highlight is Knysna’s tranquil lagoon which spills into the Indian Ocean through The Heads. Shortly after this, you will reach your destination of Plettenberg Bay. You will stay overnight at Laird’s Lodge.

Day 4

Continuing on the N2 highway, you will soon divert off onto the original old road which twists over sinuous little passes through ancient indigenous Stink and Yellow Wood forests where you are likely to see monkeys but unlikely to see a small herd of elephants last sighted many years ago.

After passing through the industrial city of Port Elizabeth, we turn north and for the first time enter the typically African environment of rolling hills, huge thorn bushes, and distant horizons. It's a big country. Your overnight destination will be within minutes of the Addo Elephant Park. You'll have an overnight stay at Woodall Country House and Spa.

Day 5

Woodall Country House and Spa is such a charming place to stay and you will have a rest day here. Thus, enabling you to do a leisurely game drive in the Addo National Elephant Park which is only 12 kilometers from the accommodation. For the less energetic, the lodge has a health spa and beauty salon for the ladies. You'll spend another night at Woodall Country House and Spa.

Day 6

This day, you will pass through the Eastern Cape where bitter wars were fought between the Africans arriving from the North East and the British settlers arriving from the South West. Basically, they met at the Fish River not far from your route and towns such as Cradock, which you'll pass through were made famous at the time.

Prior to arriving in Graaf-Reinet, you will ascend and descend the Sneeuberg (snow) mountains via the Wapadsberg and Naudeberg Passes which are often snowbound in winter. Graaf-Reinet is a beautiful and historic frontier town well worth a walk around. For the energetic, ride into the mountains via the Valley of Desolation to watch the sun set over the vast Karoo. This night, you will stay at Andries Stockenström Guest House.

Day 7

You will get a feeling for the enormity of Africa today. At times, the topography is so open, the road stretches so far into the distance and the sky is so huge that you may feel as if you were driving across an ocean. For one stretch of 105 kilometers, there are literally no towns.

At the end of it, you will have to take lunch at the one and only habitation of Willowmore. As you approach the destination of Oudtshoorn, which is the ostrich capital of the world, you will see literally hundreds and hundreds of those weird birds. You will have an overnight at Montana Guest Farm, Oudtshoorn.

Day 8

After a week on the road, most people appreciate a day off the saddle. There is so much of unusual interest around Oudtshoorn. South African Motorcycle Tours decided this would be the best place for a rest day. Should you opt to explore locally on your bikes, a round trip over the huge Swartberg Pass (gravel road) and back via Meiring’s Poort will make a truly spectacular day’s ride. There are many local activities which you can take in this area.

Your hosts at Montana Guest Farm will be pleased to arrange any of the trips for you. Before tackling the Swartberg Pass, you must seek their advice because if it rains, this pass is not suitable for motorcycles. Kindly notice that only the GS model bikes may be operated on gravel roads. You will have another stay at Montana Guest Farm, Oudtshoorn.

Day 9

Departing Oudtshoorn via the Little Karoo, your route will then follow a quite superb road through really wild, rugged, and mountainous country with few habitations. After Calitzdorp, you will climb the Huisrivier Pass, pass the German mission station of Zoar, Ladysmith, and Barrydale where it is suggested that you have lunch at the last restaurant on your right-side where motorcyclists are given a great reception.

After Barrydale and the beautiful Tradouw Pass, you'll suddenly enter a more fertile side of the mountains and rich fruit as well as grape growing regions. You'll stop in the evening in the historic town of Swellendam. You will have an overnight stay at De Kloof Lodge.

Day 10

Cape Town is only about 3.5 hours’ drive from Swellendam on the N2. Hence after lunch, you will have a tour to the Cape Peninsula visiting Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope. If time permitting, you will also visit the Penguin colony near Simon’s Town. You will stay overnight at City Lodge Hotel, Cape Town.
