Program

Overview

  • Bike: rental bike
  • Terrain: off-road
  • Meals: four breakfasts and four lunches

Day 1: Chiang Mai to Mae Chaem

Following the riders meeting, you will depart the Chiang Mai traffic and head west, hitting some good fun single trails through dense woodland before dropping down the mountains and following a double track beside and through the river.

After lunch, you will have a short ride into Mae Chaem finishing the day on some incredible tight twisty tarmac. Most of the day will be spent in the Doi Inthanon National Park. Tonight's hotel, whilst reasonably basic is in a fantastic location with great views across the mountains from the swimming pool area.

Day 2: Mae Chaem to Mae Tho National Park

The second day starts with a nice trail departing Mae Chaem before embarking on a challenging single track climb up the mountain, which will leave you with weary limbs but immense satisfaction. The rest of the day will be spent on a double trail winding through great mountain scenery and the Mae Tho National Park. Arriving at the hotel, you will be able to relax by the pool situated on the edge of the Salaween National Park.

Day 3: Mae Tho National Park

Two alternatives are offered for today's ride with a tough option and an easier option. The former starts with some exhilarating double track which offers some spectacular views as you head down the mountain and then pass through a number of villages with plenty of river crossings along the way, before starting a steep climb with no shortage of routes to keep you on the ball.

This is by far the longest distance and time covered in one day and, hopefully, you will arrive at the hotel with at least an hour of daylight to relax by the pool. The latter option will start with 100 kilometers / 62 miles, blast up some awesome tarmac before starting on the off road section. This option has some really nice single trail, jungle covered tracks, and tranquil river trails, creating a unique feeling of being miles from civilization and you will be relaxing by the pool by around 3 p.m.

Day 4: Mae Tho National Park to Pai

Today's ride will take you up high into the mountains along the Myanmar border as you sample some of the best road riding of the famous Mae Hong Son Loop coupled with the customary fantastic views.

You will then move on to the real stuff, which will be mostly a double trail enclosed by a stunningly picturesque tunnel of the jungle with a section of about 20 kilometers / 12 miles of challenging single trail running through a jungle ravine. Arrival at the hotel in Pai should be expected about 4 p.m., where you will have a lovely pool area with bar service.

Day 5: Pai to Chiang Mai

Some of the nicest flowing jungle double trail of the entire trip to kick the morning off followed by one of the most popular parts of the tour. A very precarious rope bridge to cross, which will definitely keep the adrenaline flowing.

The afternoon sees you take on what is definitely the most challenging decent, a really gnarly section before you start your return to Chiang Mai, where you will be expected to arrive at about 3:30 p.m. and, hopefully, everyone can join up for a last supper together.

Guides

Duncan Green
Originally hailed from Somerset in the UK, Duncan has been living in Thailand for many years, primarily to ride motorcycles on the brilliant roads throughout the country. Duncan moved to Chiang Mai in 2010 where he met Jeff via the shop. The two became firm friends and riding buddies. He subsequently joined Jeff in 2013 to replace Tony. He is a very proficient rider both on and off the road and his stable currently includes a Triumph Tiger 1050, Honda CB1100EX, Suzuki GSX1400, and tweaked Honda CRF250.
Jeff Pike
Jeff is a passionate biker. He is originally from Poole, Dorset, in England and has been legally riding since 1979. He visited Southeast Asia in 2001 for an off-road motorcycle tour to Laos based out of Chiang Mai. He fell in love with the place and after many subsequent visits, he also fell in love with a local girl and relocated here in 2005. Jeff's pride and joy are his beautifully tuned and lightly customized Triumph Bonneville. He also owns a Royal Enfield Classic 500 back in England, which gets ridden once a year.
