Welcome to Virginia! Motorcyclists, are you up to the challenge of the Back of the Dragon? Maybe you just want to get away and treat yourself and that special someone. The Marion area and Southwest Virginia has some of the best fly fishing in the state. The Collins House Inn in Marion, Virginia, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia and just off I-81, is your perfect destination. From Marion, you are stone’s throw from both Hungry Mother State Park and Mount Rogers National Recreation Area where the highest peak in Virginia can be found, and you can experience the view from Whitetop Mountain!
The Collins House Inn is a “Green Inn.” You will discover that the floors have radiant heat; the windows are double-glazed, the water is double-filtered, and the air is filtered and re-circulated. The B&B has central air. There are six inches of foam insulation in the exterior walls that conserve energy and make the inn very quiet. Guests of The Collins House Inn have repeatedly commented on the beauty of the house and the comfort and relaxation they feel as guests.
The Collins House Inn has 3 large areas where guests can get together, relax, read, converse, or play cards or other games. In the cooler months, guests can gather around the gas fireplace for comfort and ambiance. These areas are also suitable for quilting parties, baby or bridal showers or other small gatherings and meetings.
The guest rooms at this bed and breakfast are named in honor of Collins family members (Ella, George, Mary, and L.P.) with the exception of The Nettie. The rooms on the upper level all have mountain views. Three of the beds have headboards that were made from doors found in the basement. Doors, floors, and other features are original to the house. The window treatments, shower treatments, and bed skirts were all custom made.
Soothing, yet elegant, this spacious mini-suite provides the perfect setting for a quiet, relaxing getaway. Presently, this is the only guest room at the bed and breakfast that offers a fully vented gas fireplace. George Collins would have felt right at home in this room with its deep forest greens and burgundy hues.
About the room’s namesake, George A. Collins purchased the property in 1919 from Ella’s children and built the original house that stands today. George, a resident merchant, opened the Collins Brothers Department store in downtown Marion in 1898 along with his brother Lewis Preston Collins. Sr. George never did marry.
This mini-suite at The Collins House Inn is beautifully decorated in soothing burgundy colors with floral accents. This large and airy king bed suite is the only guest room situated on the main floor. It was originally the side porch. The Ella was one of two rooms constructed from the side porch.
Located in Marion, Virginia, less than an hour from the Nascar excitement at Bristol, this B&B is the perfect stopover on the way to and from the races. The Collins House Inn is conveniently situated nearby, yet far enough to be a relaxing destination away from the crowds.

Misty blue tones and deep opulent butterscotch colors create a relaxing environment for a honeymoon or weekend escape for two in this sizeable guest mini-suite. While serene in the spring and summer surrounded by shades of green, in the fall, the views will be blazing with color. The Mary also has a full view of the garden.
About the room’s namesake, Mary Shields Collins (Mollie) was the sister of George Collins who lived in the house with George. She never married. After her death, the house became a clinic. When locals enter the house, many of them remember coming to the clinic as children and adults.
Soothing greens, with subtle floral patterns, exude an earthy calmness in this spacious guest room. The L.P. overlooks the main garden on the side of the inn.
About the room’s namesake, Lewis Preston “Pat” Collins served as the 26th Lieutenant Governor of the State of Virginia. He practiced law in Marion, Virginia and also owned and operated a department store. He suffered a heart attack while he was being introduced as the speaker at an elementary school dedication, during his second term as lieutenant governor.
Warm earth tones of brick, taupe, and olive yield a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in this guest room. The window treatments in the room are unique and original. It is usually the first thing that guests notice about the room.
About the room’s namesake, Nettie Shaver was one of George’s milliners. The exact relationship between George and her is unknown, but one thing for sure is that she was a very close family friend. She was with George, who was on a buying trip in New York City, when he died. After George’s death, she returned to the Collins house and resided with Mary.
