Program

Day 1: Nairobi to Eldoret (321 kilometers/ 199.4 miles)

The roads open up beautifully as you leave Nairobi and ride alongside the Great Rift Valley escarpment, through the bustling town of Nakuru and onto the agricultural metropolis of Eldoret.

Day 2: Eldoret - Jinja, Uganda (288 kilometers/ 166.5 miles)

You cross the first border into the strikingly green landscapes of Uganda. Jinja, the overnight stop, has a reputation as the adventure capital of Uganda. Riding day ends with a cold beer gazing at the sunset over the majestic Nile

Day 3: Rest Day - The Nile River

Relax by the River Nile, explore the small town of Jinja, or indulge in any number of activities, including white water rafting, quad biking, and horse riding.

Day 4: Jinja to Fort Portal (380 kilometers/ 236.1 miles)

The manicured highlands of Fort Portal are some of Uganda’s most picturesque, and riding through them provides many serene moments.

Day 5: Fort Portal to Queen Elizabeth National Park (121 kilometers/ 75.2 miles)

Your first sojourn into QENP courtesy of the Crater Drive, which lies between Fort Portal and our overnight stop in the park. Crater Drive is famous for its multiple viewpoints of crater lakes in QENP

Day 6: Rest Day – Queen Elizabeth National Park / Kazinga Channel

You will head out on a ‘game drive’ on your bike and see countless buffalo, zebra, and antelopes. There’s also a good chance of coming across elephants. The afternoon ferry ride on the calm Kazinga channel offers more wildlife viewing, including hippos, riverine birds, and elephants.

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park to Lake Bunyonyi (190 kilometers/ 118 miles)

Today’s ride takes you from the plains of QENP to the terraced hills of Kabale and Lake Bunyonyi.

Day 8: Rest Day - Gorilla Tracking / Lake Bunyonyi

Mountain Gorillas are an endangered species, and can currently only be found in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Spend a rewarding day tracking them in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Alternatively, relax by the beautiful shores of Lake Bunyonyi or explore its myriad islands on a canoe.

Day 9: Lake Bunyonyi to Rubavu, Rwanda (163 kilometers/ 101.3 miles)

Today you will cross the second border into Rwanda. The terraced landscape of Kabale continues through Kisoro and into Rubavu, where you will stop for the night; on the shores of Lake Kivu. Today’s short ride allows you to explore Rubavu and Lake Kivu in the afternoon.

Day 10: Rubavu to Rwamagana, via Kigali (197 kilometers/ 122.4 miles)

The hilly roads of western Rwanda give way to the flat, but well populated, expanses of eastern Rwanda. After a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, you will make your way to the smaller town of Rwamagana.

Day 11: Rwamagana to Kahama, Tanzania (398 kilometers/ 247.3 miles)

You are crossing the third border into Tanzania. Today is the longest riding day on the tour. Most of the riding is on a tarmac, but on long roads with not much to see in between towns

Day 12: Kahama to Singida (306 kilometers/ 190.1 miles)

The huge rock formations as you approach Singida and the site of Lake Singida are a welcome break from the long roads.

Day 13: Singida to Arusha (327 kilometers/ 203.2 miles)

The landscape as you leave Singida towards Babati is interspersed with some great riding sections, great curves dipping into and out of valleys. You will arrive at Arusha, a major tourist hub, close to the Kenyan border.

Day 14: Arusha to Nairobi, Kenya (271 kilometers/ 168.4 miles)

You will ride across desolate plains towards our final border crossing into Kenya. You will then make your way through small satellite towns before being reunited with Nairobi traffic. You will get home in time for a toast to the end of the East Africa Raid.
