4 Days Trail Ride Guided Motorcycle Tour in Wales, UK

Staylittle, Wales, United Kingdom

Scenic Tour UK on roads and trails

Wales is the best place in the United Kingdom to ride a motorcycle. You ride on tarmac and natural roads surfaced with rock, gravel, grass, and mud, and you will enjoy a varied and exciting tour. You will go up mountains and down to hidden valleys where few people go! The motorcycles supplied by Trail Rides Wales are road bikes with offroad capability, not enduro bikes, and the tours are aimed at road riders with little or no previous offroad experience. If you have never ridden offroad, you may find it quite strenuous, but will also be amazed at the terrain you learn to cope with! You will be tired with a great feeling of achievement by the end of the tour.

During this tour, you will be staying in an open plan self-contained cottage in Staylittle, a peaceful village in the heart of Mid Wales. It is located a few miles north of Llanidloes, 11 miles south of Machynlleth, and 33 miles inland from Aberystwyth. The accommodation has its own entrance and it has one bed in an alcove downstairs and four beds on a balcony upstairs. There is a kitchenette, and tea, coffee, and juice are provided free of charge. If you wish to cook for yourself in the evening, this can be arranged. If not, an evening meal can be provided for 12 GBP or you can go to the pub in Dylife, 3 miles away.

Program

Trail Rides Wales provides trail bikes which are road legal motorcycles with off-road capability. Some of the green lanes you will ride at will look more like footpaths with overhanging trees and a grassy surface, whereas others are extremely rough and rocky. Trail riding techniques are a mixture of trial and enduro skills, modified for long distance riding.

While trail riding, you will always encounter water, both as puddles and fords to cross. The trail riding is varied, the routes plentiful, and chosen are those which you will enjoy the most. Trail riding is a challenge, an achievement, a load of fun, and it will take you to the most scenic areas of Wales!

Day 1 - Arrival

On the first day, you will arrive in Staylittle, near Llanidloes. Arrival can be at any time. The adventure begins on day two.

Day 2

On your first riding day, you will ride from Staylittle, alongside the Clywedog Reservoir and up into the hills of Mid Wales, riding your first “green lane”. You will have lunch at either Ponterwyd or Bow Street, riding more green lanes in the afternoon, which will include puddles and a stream crossing. You will return via Machynlleth, arriving at about 5.30 pm.

Day 3

On the second day, you will ride north from Staylittle, through Machynlleth, visiting the unspoiled moorland overlooking the Mawddach Estuary. Lunch will be in Dolgellau.

Day 4 - Departure

On day four, you will depart Staylittle at whatever time suits you, carrying with you your amazing experience with Trail Rides Wales.

Notes

Each riding day will visit different places. Trail bikes are ideal and great fun to ride (if you think 250cc is too small, you will be very surprised - a bigger bike is much harder to ride on the type of roads being used). If you are not familiar with riding on surfaces other than tarmac, Trail Rides Wales' experienced guides will give you hints and tips to help you.
