In 2012, USA on Wheels embarked on a jubilee tour of America. A large group of people came together and it was a great success. For this reason, USA on Wheels has decided to make it one of the offered tours. This tour commences on a Saturday and offers lots of fun socializing during real American-style barbecues. The tour will take you from Los Angeles, California, all the way east to El Paso, Texas. You will face temperatures ranging between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius, chilled-out and desolate roads, deserts, typical cowboy towns, airplane graveyards, and the opportunity to visit the world’s biggest Harley dealer, Barnett.
During your journey, you will stay in good quality hotels, which will be reserved before departure. The room will be in a standard twin / double room accommodation. You can opt for a private room for an additional single supplement. All rooms will include en-suite bathroom with shower or bath facilities, television, and air conditioning. Most hotels will also have a pool.
Arrival in Los Angeles. Transfer to the airport hotel. After arrival and refreshment, your guide will take care of some practical matters with you at the welcome drink on the terrace at the start of the tour.
Pick up the machines early in the morning and quickly drive south from the city of Los Angeles after a first briefing. From Oceanside, you drive inland via Julian and the Sweeney Pass with its winding and lonely road. Spend the night in El Centro.
Ride further east, make a stop at the Imperial Dam viewpoint and you are already in Arizona. The trip goes past large farms. The last section on Interstate 8 to Gila Bend, world-famous for the 90-degree curve of the Gila River.
You will ride the 85 south to Why, continue on the 86 to the fantastic Saguaro National Park. The cacti are overwhelming! Visit the Old Tucson Studios with their Western decors, the location of many feature films. Tucson's nickname is "The old Pueblo", an old city built by the Indians.
With the motorcycle to the Pima Air and Space Museum with its enormous aircraft cemetery "The Boneyard" and a bizarre collection of aircraft and helicopters. Optionally, a trip to Mount Lemmon is one of the options for lovers.
It starts early for a long but varied tour to Lordsburg. You visit Tombstone, where the famous shootout between Wyatt Earp with Doc Holliday and Billy Carson took place in the "OK Coral". The city is largely as it used to be. Then it's on to the historic and worth seeing the town of Bisbee. Arrive at New Mexico, the southernmost part of this trip.
Ride further south and then, directly on the Mexican border further east, along lonely roads to El Paso, Texas. Here, you visit the world's largest Harley-Davidson dealer. The hotel is right next door, so browse around until the shop closes.
The journey only goes to White Sands National Park, an enormous dune landscape, where you can even go sledding with special plates. Then only along the Rio Grande and then the best winding roads via Hillsboro to Silver City.
Further through lonely and hilly landscapes to the Coolidge Dam, an enormous concrete structure which, although the road leaves something to be desired, is absolutely worthwhile to see.
The winding US60 takes you to Phoenix. From there, you ride through a desert-like landscape to Kingman. You stay there on Route 66!
Is the Grand Canyon on your bucket list? Today, you are going to visit the famous Skywalk, an enormous glass plate right on the edge of the canyon, which you can safely enter, but it could make you queasy! Then, continue over the Hoover dam to Las Vegas.
Today is a relaxing day where you can rest, shop, go to shows, marry, walk the strip, helicopter flight over the strip or back to the canyon, etc.
Leaving the city behind, you will ride over Interstate 15 towards LA, although the motorway is absolutely worth it!
This last day of driving is as spectacular as the entire trip thanks to a drive through the San Bernardino Mountains. The best curves and infinitely long. Then past Downtown LA, you hand in the machines and have dinner together at the end.
Transfer to the airport with the hotel shuttle for your return flight to Europe. Or maybe you want to extend your trip? USA on Wheels will of course book your extra requests.
Please note that the pace of the tour can be at a beginner's level as well as at an intermediate's level. It all depends on the group's experience and own pace. Please send an inquiry for more details.
Some continental breakfasts are included in this tour.
