Join an adventurous motorbike ride through Baja California, Mexico. The tour will take you from Los Angeles to the most southern tip of the state, Cabo San Lucas where you will spend two whole days on the stunning beach. Enjoy two weeks of pleasant weather, fantastic flora and fauna, Coronas, tacos and tequila, lobster, and friendly Mexicans.
During your journey, you will stay in good quality hotels, which will be reserved before departure. The room will be in a standard twin / double room accommodation. You can opt for a private room for an additional single supplement. All rooms will include en-suite bathroom with shower or bath facilities, television, and air conditioning. Most hotels will also have a pool.
Upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), you will be taken to an airport hotel where you will be able to enjoy the taste of a Corona to get in the mood. The team leader will give a short talk on the practicalities of the trip.
After picking up the motorbikes early in the morning, you will start a long ride down to San Diego. A bit further on, you will cross the border and carry on through Rosarito and Lobster Village to Ensenada, a big Mexican haven that serves as a docking place for many cruise ships.
You will leave the city along Highway 1 and get a taste of pure Mexico, tourism and American influences stop here. After passing through the Vizcaino Desert, with its enormous cacti, you will cruise along the Pacific. El Rosario, with its many little shops and restaurants, will be your resting place for the night.
First, you will fill up your jerry cans as fuel can be hard to come by here. You will carry on inland through magnificent, mountainous countryside with wonderfully bendy lanes. The riding passed thatched houses might remind you of Spain.
From Guerrero Negro, famous for its production of salt and its whales, you will continue on to the east coast. You will pass over Devil’s Grade, a well-known and notorious mountain road with many bends. In Santa Rosalia, you may want to go for a little dip in the sea, as the paradise of white beaches is greatly tempting. Along the east coast, you will head on to Loreto.
Passing the red-brown rocks of Sierra de la Giganta, you will reach La Paz. This haven, with a population of 100 000, was founded in 1535 and is considered one of the nicest cities in Mexico. Your paradise hotel is conveniently located right on the beach.
Riding on along Highway 1, you will pass numerous little villages. The more south you go, the denser the traffic will become as you carry on to San Jose del Cabo, and Lands End, the most southern tip of Baja. You will stay the night in the marvelous Cabo San Lucas!
After six days of motorbiking, you will enjoy resting in this luxurious resort. There will be time to relax on the beach, to stroll through the marina, or go souvenir shopping. You can go deep-sea fishing or take a glass-bottom boat ride, followed by a stupendous evening meal and drinks in a bar of your choice.
After two days of rest, you will start early today and embark on a long journey northwards. You will ride through Todos Santos, where you will find the famous Hotel California. You are advised not to check-in, however, because if you do, according to the famous song by The Eagles, you can never leave.
It is worth mentioning that the road here looks completely different on the return journey because of the contrasting light fall. After a long day of riding inland, you will be pleasantly surprised by the brilliant vistas over the Sea of Cortez. There will be time for an evening stroll along Loreto’s boulevard.
To start the day, you will continue along the coast, followed by the beautiful, windy roads up to San Ignacio, where you can come to rest on the cute village square in this real oasis.
You will follow the way up to Cataviña. This day will be marked by ultimate silence, magnificent cacti, and power produced by an old generator. On tonight’s menu, you can find simple, yet delicious food in a restaurant opposite your hotel.
The rough, dry terrain will slowly be replaced by green pastures. You will encounter more villages before reaching Ensenada again. Here, you will find so many fun bars to frequent that the evening will not seem long enough.
Up the coast via the scenic route, you will arrive at one of the busiest borders in the world, so it could take a while before you are able to continue your journey on better-quality American tarmac roads. In Los Angeles, you will say farewell to your motorbikes and enjoy an all-American steak together in the evening accompanied by more Coronas to prolong the Mexican experience.
Transfer to the airport with the hotel shuttle for your return flight to Europe. Or maybe you want to extend your trip? USA on Wheels will of course book your extra requests.
