During this tour, you will be staying at several different accommodations. You will spend two nights at a homestay/hotel. The homestays are hosted by ethnic people in a traditional stilt house (Tay, Dao, Thai, Mong).

Although Vietnam is a developing country and you will visit some remote places, the quality of accommodation has improved greatly. In small towns, you will be staying at local private guesthouses. The rooms are based on twin shared and are provided with air conditioning, a private bathroom with hot water, and mosquito nets on each bed.

In some locations, the local homestays are available and the sleeping arrangements are made usually in a house on stilts, all in one room. Each person will have a mattress, a pillow, and mosquito nets, and will be sharing a toilet or shower.

Night 1

Sleep in Hmong Dong Van homestay or hotel (private double/twin room).

Night 2

Sleep in hotel or homestay dorm (1 person on 1 mattress) or shared double room with a shared bathroom.


A day before tour: Hanoi - Hà Giang city - 300 kilometers / 186 miles (by bus)

Leave Hanoi at around 20:30 by a comfortable sleeper bus. The journey takes about 8.5 hours. A bus will pick you from your hotel around Hanoi Old Quarter. If you don’t have the hotel address, Zonitrip will give you the bus parking place information.

Day 1: Hà Giang - Quản Bạ - Yên Minh - Đồng Văn, 135 kilometers / 84 miles

Arrive at Hà Giang city at around 03:00- 04:00 in the morning. You will be a drop-off at our partner hostel. You can take a short sleep until 7:00 am, our guide will pick you up here and prepare a motorbike and guide you to eat breakfast. After sorting out with the bikes, go and get a full tank of gas for your bikes. Have breakfast and coffee.

Leaving Hà Giang, the road climbs over the Quan Ba pass (heaven's gate). Have a short hike to the heaven's gate to see the beautiful scenery including Quan Ba town. The road winds over a saddle and opens up onto an awesome vista.

The whole Dong Van Karst Plateau is a major heritage sight in Vietnam. You will see unending rice fields, thousands of limestone rocks and breath-taking views. You can observe the life of hill-tribe villages where local people work on the land. The driver can also take you to the Chinese border and the famous northernmost viewpoint in Vietnam

Few kilometers before the Dong Van Town, you will stop in Hmong King’s Palace, a home for Vuong’s family in Sa Phin. It’s an H’ mong family of high rank during French colonial rule – this palace attracts keen interest from architecturally minded visitors due to its mixed style of European and Chinese architecture and the history of this land.

If you want to experience sleep in the homestay of Hmong people, explore their culture via learning their traditional music dance, wearing their traditional clothes, Zonitrip will arrange sleep in Hmong Dong Van homestay.

If you want to have a comfortable and private room in the hotel, Zonitrip will book a room in the hotel 2-3star in Dong Van.

  • Day 2: Đồng Văn - Lũng Cú - Mã Pí Lèng Pass - Mèo Vạc, 90 kilometers / 56 miles

After breakfast, you leave for the Lung Cu flag pole at around 08:00. It is another amazing ride today. Lung Cu flag pole is about 25 kilometers from the center of Đồng Văn district. Lung Cu mountain is likened as “a high forehead of the motherland” where it marks the extreme north of the country. From its top, the visitors can see a whole of a beautiful and spectacular landscape. When you are in Lung Cu, you can also leave your bikes and walk to visit a small village of LO LO people – one of the minority ethnic people in North Vietnam.

Turn around and back to Đồng Văn, then, drive to the peak of Mã Pí Lèng Pass which will give you the stunning views of the mountains and sweeping valleys. It is the most beautiful part of the whole journey, located on the Happiness road connecting the towns of Dong Van and Meo Vac, Ma Pi Leng Pass. The legendary pass is well known for craggy cliffs and breath-taking views. It is the most rugged pass in the north, often referred to as the “king” of the passes in Vietnam! The whole road is winding through the cliffs and overcomes Ma Pi Leng pass at an altitude of 2,000 meters.

To show you the full beauty of the pass, you will trek the breathtaking Sky Path to admire the scenery of the whole valley and Nho Que river. From the amazing mountain viewpoint, you will be able to experience a 360° panorama of Mã Pí Lèng Pass and take unforgettable pictures. Standing on the peak of the pass, you will feel overwhelmed by the majestic space of mountains and rivers.

Youwill continue our journey to more distant villages. From there, you will know how people live in remote parts of Vietnam.

Day 3: Mèo Vạc - Boating in Nho Que river - Hà Giang, 150 kilometers / 94 miles

You leave Mèo Vạc at around 07:00 in the morning after your breakfast. You are expected to arrive at Hà Giang at around 17:00.

If it is on Sunday, you could have a chance to enjoy the unique and special local market in Mèo Vạc. It only happens on Sunday so it is called the Sunday market. There are very colorful and various cultures of ethnic minorities, so it will be a special experience for you.

Leaving Meo Vac, you will take the boating trip in Nho Que river. It’s located in the bottom of Mã Pí Lèng Pass with Tu San canyon – it’s a new interesting destination in your Ha Giang tour. Tu San canyon is considered the deepest and most unique canyon in Vietnam. Nho Que river start from China runs through the Meo Vac area, Ha Giang. You will trek down from the main road to the bottom of the river, take the boat and enjoy the poetic beauty with the green color of Nho Que river. You can choose an optional activity; Kayaking.

Leaving Nho Que river, you will take the road back to Ha Giang. It doesn’t mean the end of attractions! The route from Meo Vac – Ha Giang is so amazing with the huge rock mountain and winding pass. You could visit and play with local children beside the route, the ethnic children living here are very friendly and lovely. Wash up and have dinner at a local restaurant, then return your bikes at the bike rental place. Your sleeper bus leaves at 20:00. You begin your journey back to Hanoi with a good night's sleep on the bus. Arrive at Hanoi at 04:00 on the next day.
