During this tour, you will be staying at several different accommodations. You will spend nights at a family's house or a hotel. The homestay is hosted by ethnic people in a traditional stilt house (Tay, Dao, Thai, Hmong).

Although, Vietnam is a developing country and you will visit some remote places, the quality of accommodation has improved greatly. In small towns, you will be staying at local private guesthouses. The rooms are shared twins and provided with air conditioning, a private bathroom with hot water, and mosquito nets on each bed.

In some locations, the local homestays are available and the sleeping arrangements are made usually in a house on stilts, all in one room. Each person will have a mattress, a pillow, and mosquito nets, and will be sharing a toilet or shower.


Night 0: Overnight on the train to Lao Cai station

An English-speaking guide will collect you from your hotel in Hanoi at 21:00 and take you to Hanoi train station for the overnight train to Lao Cai.

Day 1: Lao Cai - Sapa - Lao Cai and Ta Van villages - Ban Ho homestay

  • 6 a.m - 7 a.m Meet your guide in the Lao Cai station, have breakfast, and prepare to get the motorbike
  • 7.30 a.m. Drive the motorbike to Sapa (30 kilometers / 18.7 miles) and discover around the Sapa Town

You will start this Sapa to Mu Cang Chai motorbike tour by riding your motorbikes down the valley to visit Lao Chai village of Black H’Mong people. You will have the chance to experience the richest traditional culture of Black H’Mong people in the region. Then, continue riding a bit to visit the Zay minority at Ta van. Spend time to enjoy the picturesque scenery along the way, a mountainous area of stunning natural beauty, and diverse ethnic minorities.

You will keep on riding down the hill, enjoying the fantastic open views in Ban Ho, the most beautiful valley where you will spend a night on the bamboo house of Tay people. For the rest of the time, you will take a short walk to the nearby waterfall for sightseeing and experiencing the daily activities of the locals.

Day 2: Ban Ho - Nam Toong - Nam Ken - Thanh Phu - Sapa

After breakfast, you will ride up to to the Red Dzao village at Nam Ken and Xa Pho. Xa Pho tribe is the smallest group in Sapa who has very little contact with modern Vietnam. You will ride back to Sapa and visit Cat Cat village and enjoy lunch there.

Day 3: Sapa - Mu Cang Chai (150 kilometers / 93 miles)

Pass over O Quy Ho Pass (one of the four greatest passes in Vietnam). Ride on Qui Ho pass to cross Hoang Lien mountain range - the highest one in Vietnam including Fanxipan peak with the height of 3,142 meters above sea level. It is sure that you will have pictures of the most beautiful valley in North Vietnam.

You will drive to Ban Thai village, the village of White Thai people, one family here will be your host today. During leisure time, you may take a strolling around this village to see the normal life of villagers. You will enjoy your dinner today with your host family.

Day 4: Discover wonderful rice terrace on the mountains in Mu Cang Chai - Tule - Nghia Lo (100 kilometers / 62 miles)

Ride the motorbike around the Mong village with the beautiful rice terraces such as La Pan Tan and Che Cu Nha. At La Pan Tan terraces, you should deeply go into La Pan Tan area. On the route, there is a small trail run along the valley, turn into that trail and go even more deeply so you can take extreme and unique photos.

Beside the rice terrace, you will have a chance to explore the culture and local life of Mong people, such as traditional music and agriculture tools.

Then, you continue to run over the Khau Pha pass (one of the four greatest passes in Northern Vietnam with 40-kilometer patches of fog in the cold days).

The ride is on some of the most scenic roads which offer a lot of stops for pictures. You will cross Tu Le and Mu Cang Chai, the two remote lands of Yen Bai province where the black H’mong, Dzao, and Thai people can make wonderful rice terrace on the mountains.

Day 5: Nghia Lo - Suoi Giang - Yen Bai - Hanoi

After breakfast, you will continue to explore the oldest tea forest Suoi Giang, a special landmark of the Yen Bai Province with the famous hundreds-year-old tea. You will enjoy a cup of tea, and relax and see the Nghia Lo valley down. You will then leave Suoi Giang, returning to Yen Bai city.

At 2 p.m., arrive in Yen Bai, catch the bus to Hanoi. Say goodbye to your tour guide. At 5 or 6 p.m., arrive in My Dinh station in Hanoi. This is the end of the tour.
