During this tour, you will be staying at several different accommodations. You will spend nights at a family's house or a hotel. The homestay is hosted by ethnic people in a traditional stilt house (Tay, Dao, Thai, Hmong).

Although, Vietnam is a developing country and you will visit some remote places, the quality of accommodation has improved greatly. In small towns, you will be staying at local private guesthouses. The rooms are shared twins and provided with air conditioning, a private bathroom with hot water, and mosquito nets on each bed.

In some locations, the local homestays are available and the sleeping arrangements are made usually in a house on stilts, all in one room. Each person will have a mattress, a pillow, and mosquito nets, and will be sharing a toilet or shower.

Program

Night 0: Overnight on the train to Lao Cai station

An English-speaking guide will collect you from your hotel in Hanoi at 21:00 and take you to Hanoi train station for the overnight train to Lao Cai.

Day 1: Lao Cai - Sapa - Lao Cai and Ta Van villages - Ban Ho homestay

  • 6 a.m - 7 a.m Meet your guide in the Lao Cai station, have breakfast, and prepare to get the motorbike
  • 7.30 a.m. Drive the motorbike to Sapa (30 kilometers / 18.7 miles) and discover around the Sapa Town

You will start this Sapa to Mu Cang Chai motorbike tour by riding your motorbikes down the valley to visit Lao Chai village of Black H’Mong people. You will have the chance to experience the richest traditional culture of Black H’Mong people in the region. Then, continue riding a bit to visit the Zay minority at Ta van. Spend time to enjoy the picturesque scenery along the way, a mountainous area of stunning natural beauty, and diverse ethnic minorities.

You will keep on riding down the hill, enjoying the fantastic open views in Ban Ho, the most beautiful valley where you will spend a night on the bamboo house of Tay people. For the rest of the time, you will take a short walk to the nearby waterfall for sightseeing and experiencing the daily activities of the locals.

Day 2: Ban Ho - Sapa

After breakfast, you ride up to to the Red Dzao village at Nam Ken & Xa Pho the village of Xa Pho tribe the smallest group in Sapa who have very little contact with modern Vietnam. You will ride back to Sapa.

When you come back to Sapa town, you can choose some options:

First is that you can travel by cable car to reach mountain Fansipan, the highest mountain in North Vietnam ( 3,143 meters above the sea). You will have a chance to see the majestic and stunning landscape from the sky and on the top, below are rice terrace valley. It is an interesting experience when visit Sapa. Since it is optional, there is an extra fee of 35 USD per person.

Second option is that you will ride your motorbike to Heaven Gate in O Quy Ho pass, one of the four greatest and longest passes. You can spend more time to enjoy landscape and majestic of Hoang Lien Son. It is located 11 kilometers far from Sapa town. On the way, you can take a short walk to visit Silver Waterfall or Love waterfall. You can choose to visit Glass bridge, the tallest bridge in VIetnam, which is 2,200 meters above the sea level and 60 meters in length. Since it is optional, there is an extra fee of 18 USD per person.

In Day 3, you also come back this route, but there isn't much time to spend in this pass, so Zonitrip can guide you here, to have more time to enjoy the scenery of O Quy Ho pass.

Day 3: Sapa - Mu Cang Chai (150 kilometers / 93 miles)

After breakfast, you start to head to Heaven Gate, where you will be amazed by the breathtaking view of mountain surroundings including Fansipan, the highest peak of Indochina. You then continue your drive downhill on one of the most beautiful stretch of roads in Vietnam to Than Uyen, where you will meet the black Dao, who are trading in the town’s small market in their black traditional dresses.

Zonitrip's guide will take you to visit local tea growing plantation, a bike ride around the Tan Uyen town, lunch with a local tea growing family, a demonstration of the tea making process, and about a dozen cups of the local green tea! You will have an experience, how to tell when tea leaves and buds are ready to be picked and how to tell its quality grade. You will drive to Ban Thai village, the village of White Thai people, one family here will be your host today.

You can choose some options to do:

First option is during the rest time of the day, you can choose to trekking activity, follow the  the village of Flower Hmong people, see the overview of rice terrace, town, explore and discover the real life of local people. Zonitrip's guide will show you to visit a house, explain the culture and difference between Hmong people groups. It takes around 2.5-3 hours and around 8 kilometers to go up the mountain, through forest, small waterfall, muddy path, through villages.

Secondly, if you are good and skill driver, you want to challenge your riding, You can choose to ride a motorbike on the trekking route.

Day 4: Mu Cang Chai - Tule - Nghia Lo (100 kilometers / 62 miles)

Ride the motorbike around the Mong village with the beautiful rice terraces such as La Pan Tan and Che Cu Nha. At La Pan Tan terraces, you should deeply go into La Pan Tan area. On the route, there is a small trail run along the valley, turn into that trail and go even more deeply so you can take extreme and unique photos.

Beside the rice terrace, you will have a chance to explore the culture and local life of Mong people, such as traditional music and agriculture tools.

Then, you continue to run over the Khau Pha pass (one of the four greatest passes in Northern Vietnam with 40-kilometer patches of fog in the cold days).

The ride is on some of the most scenic roads which offer a lot of stops for pictures. You will cross Tu Le and Mu Cang Chai, the two remote lands of Yen Bai province where the black H’mong, Dzao, and Thai people can make wonderful rice terrace on the mountains.

Day 5: Nghia Lo - Suoi Giang - Yen Bai - Hanoi

After breakfast, you will continue to explore the oldest tea forest Suoi Giang, a special landmark of the Yen Bai Province with the famous hundreds-year-old tea. You will enjoy a cup of tea, and relax and see the Nghia Lo valley down. You will then leave Suoi Giang, returning to Hanoi.

Zonitrip can arrange some off-road on the way. You are expected to arrive Hanoi at 5-6 p.m. Zonitrip's guide say goodbye and see you next trip.

If you are too tired and don't want to ride motorbike more to Hanoi, you will ride 80 kilometers from Nghia Lo to Yen Bai city, then you will using bus transfer you and your bikes to Hanoi. Since it is optional, there is an extra fee of 7 USD per person for bus ticket and 13 USD per bike.
